Game Feeling and Pacing

I’ve been playing No Rest for the Wicked since the first early-access build and I still love the art, music, and overall mood. But after the branch update (and the first hotfix) the game feels heavier than ever, and even one-hour sessions leave me wiped out. Here’s what I’m running into:

What I’m experiencing

  • Slow rhythm: Movement, swing animations, and stamina recovery all feel a notch slower than before. The whole flow is exhausting after a short playtime.
  • Stat lock-in: Since the patch I’ve had to dump every level-up point into Carry and Stamina just to equip the gear I find. Everything else is still at its base value, so builds feel less flexible than they did in the first release.
  • Weapon handling hiccups:
    • Heavy weapons swing so slowly that I’m down to a “hit once, dodge away” loop.
    • Fast weapons used to offset the game’s pace, but now my dash steps sometimes shoot off at odd angles even while locked on, and enemies rarely give me room to finish a combo. My hits seldom interrupt theirs, but theirs almost always interrupt mine.
  • Unclear improvement from the hotfix: The first hotfix felt slightly better, though I’m not sure if that’s the patch or simply my higher character level.

My question

Is this slower, more deliberate tempo what you’re aiming for? If it is, no worries—I may just not be the right player for that style. If you’re still tuning, I’m happy to set the game aside for a while and jump back in when pacing and weapon feel get another pass.

Thanks for listening, and congrats on a gorgeous world—I really do want to spend more time in it.

I second this. Especially the stamina consumption. I had 40 hours at release and after 2 hours yesterday I don’t really care to continue on right now. I don’t remember being constantly out of stamina when I played a year ago.

I feel the same. Still I’ll try to finish my last quest (go to Marin Village) and maybe leave it there. The boss fights doesn’t feel right since you are locked to just attack once and leave or else you might get killed because of the lack of stamina. (To solve the stamina usage I just removed all my armor and got my best weapon dmg dealer and I just did an almost perfect run on most boses). And the weapons/builds still feel to locked to 1 stat or 2 and not much varaiety, not because the game lacks weapons but because you can’t use them. And as other people said already I don’t have enought time to play several character and try them all if not most of them.
I really like the new story and overall look of the game style but the combat update must be big (rebalancing weapons, stats, drops, etc) or else the game might feel extremely clunky and unrewarding (some times the game feels it’s 200% agains you).

they are only good at art and vfx. that is about it, in all honesty.
