Coming off the Claymore to the Freiheit and playing a light great sword user, I like the wide sweeping style except:
If you use the Freiheit with a light equipment load, you lose access to the only thrusting attack, AND the only charge attacks the weapon has!
Looking at the Wicked website, there is a ‘quickstep combo’ that theoretically replaces the roll combo when you have a light load, but as far as I can determine, there is no way to access this combo.
Furthermore, and I’ll test more shortly, it seems other weapons do not have access to a ‘quickstep combo’, admittedly I could only afford a bloody straight sword to test after realizing this, however, as it stands with these two weapons, one is actively losing a portion of their moveset by making the sacrifice of a light equipment load.
Looking at weapons I have available, I don’t seem to have any other options available that have different quickstep and rolling attacks, but it seems that any weapon, when quickstep attacking will either use the standing attack chain if attack is pressed immediately after dodge, or the running attack chain if attack is pressed a bit into the dodge.
Whatever the case may be, It really feels bad the Freiheit loses a large part of it’s kit for nothing in return for playing on light load.
I know about this and i like that it is the way it is.
In light weight you dont really want to get locked in animation
This can also be seen as an advantage for the normal and heavy weight class because evasion is the overall advantage in the Light weight class.
You will have to test every weapon to find out their different types of movesets for each weight class as there isnt a Guide Video showing this in detail yet even though its been in the game for a long time.
It’s not an advantage to straight up LOSE moves. EVERY attack locks your animation, singling out losing one in particular as good confuses me. For my first 20 hours, I played claymore light load, focusing on it’s STANDING CHARGED ATTACK. We clearly play differently.
The lunging stab is the fastest move in that weapons set. followed by it’s only charge attacks, it actively loses functionality by being light. Heavy and medium shouldn’t get extra fucking moves just because they don’t want to dodge, they already take ~half as much damage with good armor as I am due to restricting myself to a light load.
The same thing happens with the rust-stained straight sword. it has a roll to fast 4 hit combo. are you saying that it’s a GOOD THING you cant use that combo when in light equip load? Or that that is the intended state of things?
Agree 100%, especially with how fast the move comes out and its range. Apologists can go any length- they will even label unintended bugs as features, not realizing early access is the time to iron out the game, not cover issues under the rug and act like things are good. It’s honestly insufferable.
So try summer sting instead as it might suit your needs except it doesn’t have a charge attack..
Yes thats true however the animation lock has a longer duration in normal/heavy weight on most roll attack movesets
Its mostly normal/heavy that have the “extra fucking moves” tied to the Roll so they have to dodge in order to utilize the moves im referring to??
As it currently works i would say its intended, but only the devs knows the answer to that question because i am no developer for this game.
In a light build i wouldnt want to get stuck in a charging animation while quickstepping as it would leave me in a vulnerable state with some weapons, however it would only make sense for me if i were using a rapier or dual daggers with a charge up in light equip load.
If its a bad thing, try a different weapon until you find a moveset that suits your build?
Im not saying that its a good thing or a bad thing. I generally just like when theres more options laid out for me to try, when there’s more build variety.
I would argue arbitrary restrictions aren’t build variety.
An example:
Here are a pair of lineman’s pliers. They’re sturdy and perform several functions. They can grip and bend, they can cut wire, they can ream pipes, they can be used as a hammer. I really like these pliers, they do all the things I want. The one day I show up to work without my heavy coat and pants, and the job runner is telling me that without my heavy clothes l can’t use my lineman pliers as a hammer anymore.
Furthermore, this restriction does not apply equally to all tools, just those specific lineman’s pliers and maybe one or two other tools.
Why?
Does that make sense?
And finally because it seems like you specifically keep ignoring this, the move I lose for going to a light equip load, is fast thrust chain. That’s specifically a move that benefits people that want to move quickly and precisely.
Your supposition that no one using a light load would be interested in charge attacks is immensely frustrating, as that’s the entire basis of my play style. Position correctly, charge up, unleash hell. I played 23 hours over the weekend with the claymore like this. Then I found the Freiheit, I didn’t have a feather gem for it, so I started using it with medium load, and fell in love with it. Then, when I leveled up, I learned that 1/3 of the moveset of my new tool just straight disappears. There is a “quickstep combo” with the freiheit, but it is functionally identical to the running attack chain, instead of A, B and C attacks, I only have A and B. That feels bad.
You are arguing against a claim i never made as i specifically referred to myself when i said ‘I wouldn’t want to’ and ‘it would only make sense for me’.
Stop twisting my words.
Now back to the topic..
If you want a straight sword with charge on quickstep combo then try (or not) falstead’s fury.
If you want a great sword with a 1,2,3 charge combo and a thrust on the run attack then try (or not) festering earth.
