Founders pack cutoff

I bought during early access. I believed the founders pack came with any early access purchase but missed that the cutoff was a fixed date and not the actual early access period even though the description reads as a marker for players who arrived before 1.0.

I’m not the only one. Many others made the same mistake and you can see this on steam forums. It’s not a point to shame buyers over if there’s many with the same misunderstanding. We are all pre 1.0 buyers.

I love this game and don’t regret the purchase. I bought Ori years ago near launch on Xbox. I’ve finished dark souls 1 and 3 and elden ring as well as played a lot of diablo and poe2.

I’m just asking for equal treatment of all pre 1.0 buyers. That’s all.

Thank you for considering this.

I sympatize with the issue but i would point out that the announcment was made on June 3 and was valid till July 10.

That is a whole month of time, and also multiple “reminder” has been published to warn the people of the last day closing in.

Tough i have to say that i have nothing against it being reworked to be up until 1.0 is released, instead of 10 July.. if they wish to do so.

I hate that they are doing pre order and twitch exclusives, abusing FOMO is the worst thing a game developer can do. Everyone should get the same game content, regardless of when it was bought.

Twitch drops will be made available to everyone after some time, so they’re only time-gated.

And the founder’s pack is a reward for those who participated in early access or, because consoles haven’t had that, for pre-ordering it. Moon literally misses out on money if people buy it now, especially if it’s on sale which happens very often, compared to if they buy it at 1.0. Also, the founder’s pack rewards aren’t really content.

I shared my opinion, you didn’t have to “prove me wrong”. Of course, I also disagree with everything you said.

I just gave you additional info for context. How is that “trying to prove you wrong”?

Most of the above are facts. You can’t disagree with those. It’s okay to dislike something, but you shouldn’t blindly dismiss the whole idea behind it just because of that.

Let’s have a civil discussion.

Why exactly do you think everyone deserves all that stuff, regardless of when they bought the game?

Let’s have a civil discussion.

You were the first to dismiss my opinion, as you specifically target my comment rather than the post cause it triggered you for some reason.

You said that your comment contains facts. Then can you share when did the developer announce that the Twitch drops that were given as excluse rewards will be achievable through in game play? Saying that “they will come back” doesn’t mean anything, as you can’t know that for sure, and the time gate may be months or years.

As for the founder pack, the game is still in early access, paying for a game in early access is basically sponsoring a promise, there are 3 types of people: those that already had the game, those that are unsure if they should buy it, and those that didn’t hear about the game yet. The exclusive founder pack is targeting the latter 2 categories, they are not losing money with this, they are gaining money from the people that were waiting for the full release, the whole idea is to gain money regardless if the game is a success or not on release, the fact that they abuse the urgency with the exclusive deal is what pisses me off, it’s blatant predatory marketing, they didn’t have to do that, they could’ve done a separate deluxe edition on release with that content. Also it creates mistrust, because for me this is a signal that achieving money as soon as possible over a promise of a finished game is more important for them than delivering a finished product.

And yes, it is content, everything the game has to offer including cosmetics are game content.

And to answer why do I think that everyone deserve all that stuff, is because we all paid for the same game and we all deseve the same content, the “reward” of the people that bought it before the release is the fact that they got to play it in advance or even shape it’s development.

Ortu come on, let’s not put all sorts of assumptions on sBAM’s comment, I am not seeing any dismissal from his side, just a small clarification  .

I do agree with you on this matter, I think there are 2 possibilities:

They wanted to have some fast sales and used the Founder’s Pack to attract buyers, OR they wanted to really thank everyone who has been there from the start.

My mind is on the second one, I genuinely think they came together and thought “how can we really show that we love our early-access testers and the people who have been deeply involved”.

I don’t agree with the exclusivity of it but I do need to say that this feels genuinely and a very good ‘thank you’ at that.

Have you considered the possibility that it could be just that? Let me know!

Silas

I specifically commented on your post because you also mentioned the twitch drops, which the original post didn’t. I’m not “targeting you”.

Below is the proof about the Twitch rewards being made available for everyone later on. And yes you can obviously not trust him, but I think this is a pretty bad way to look at things in general. Until he shows us he doesn’t deserve the trust, we should give him the benefit of the doubt imo.

Out definition of content differs apparently, which is not surprising because there really isn’t just a single one. I hope that we can agree that these rewards or their lack of for certain people doesn’t influence gameplay at all.

  1. The sword is probably the most controversial one. I’ve heard from some very experienced players that the moveset of it looks exactly like the blood rusted sword, so it might very well be possible that it’s just a skin for it.

  2. The Spirit Cavern is a home, of which 6 already exist in the game. The only difference is that it’s not in Sacrament, but somewhere out in the world which is probably more negative than positive because all the shops, Randolph, etc. are there

  3. Name tag. Can’t really be mad about that, right? That’s just a simple way of showing that you participated in early access.

  4. Public beta test access. The community feedback during early access obviously shaped what Wicked has and will become. Giving people that already gave valuable feedback the opportunity to do that even after 1.0 is beneficial for both Moon and the players.

Overall those rewards are neither game-changing nor particularly strong. If they really would be aiming to make the most money these rewards would need to be quite substantial, but they aren’t. For that reason I’m inclined to believe that these are actually supposed to be a “thank you” for the players, like Silas also said in his post.

@sbam This is a mischaracterisation of the main point which was already defined in the original post because nobody said everyone deserves all the stuff regardless of when purchased because it’s clearly only about pre 1.0 founders pack misaligned / mixed up communications

@Ortu I do largely agree with you however marketing is marketing a growth and sales tactic is what it is, but at least correctly align all pre 1.0 without confusing a large chunk of the customers by also throwing in arbitrary contrived cutoff dates that are not 1.0

Ortu said that, as you can see below.

Fair enough. Technically it’s cosmetics and doesn’t give players any distinct advantage so would argue they don’t fall within the everyone should get everything all the time umbrella but that’s a totally different topic to the primary point here regarding early access which I wont restate. Thanks

I will believe that when they will release the founder pack as a buyable “deluxe edition” or “additional conent”. The “thank you” from the developer for us being that we received it for free.

Otherwise, I don’t agree with exclusivity in gaming or time gating for that matter in any way or form.

Anyway, thank you for posting the Twitch message from discord, it’s reassuring, but I like the way KCD2 and SM2 handled the time gating of twitch drops, either by offering them as game rewards by completing missions(KCD2) or from a in game shop with resources gathered by playing the game (SM2). Rather than having a rotation, which is still time gate, of course I don’t know what he meant by “loot rotation”, could be something else.

I highly doubt the devs will make the Founder’s Pack as something you can buy.

  1. The devs hate MTX

oh what’s this??!! your OWN POST contradicting your “evidence” in THIS POST??

Looks like there IS another way to obtain these rewards. Ever.

The only way to get these rewards are if you pre-order Wicked or already bought it on July 10th or before. That’s what Zak meant and nothing else.

No. The wording in the post is “THESE REWARDS CANNOT BE OBTAINED IN ANY OTHER WAY. EVER.” while the contradictory post says “PRE-ORDER NRFTW BEFORE LAUNCH TO CLAIM YOUR FOUNDERS PACK”.

This contradiction discredits your attempt to reinterpret meaning where the literal “WHAT ANYONES EYES CAN SEE FOR THEMSELVES” shows without a doubt that “THESE REWARDS” CAN BE OBTAINED IN ANOTHER WAY. EVER.

And if you go to the source provided, it’s says this:

My post just didn’t include the July 10th cutoff.

Also the top comment under that post:

Simply no.

Again I must point here to the contradiction, specifically, the wording states as follows:

“THESE REWARDS CANNOT BE OBTAINED IN ANY OTHER WAY. EVER.”

while the contradictory post says:

“PRE-ORDER NRFTW BEFORE LAUNCH TO CLAIM YOUR FOUNDERS PACK”.

this shows that the first statement is false because:

“THESE REWARDS” CAN BE OBTAINED IN ANOTHER WAY. EVER.

So back to my first post in this thread, where I stated, as quoted below:

I bought during early access. I believed the founders pack came with any early access purchase but missed that the cutoff was a fixed date and not the actual early access period even though the description reads as a marker for players who arrived before 1.0.

Thank you for considering this.

The post was my summary with the full information in the tweet. The devs themselves said before July 10th, I (a random community member, I’m not a dev and don’t work for Moon) just didn’t include that in the post itself but clarified it in the top comment.
