Finding it very hard to see enemies and attacks

I started playing recently and I really like the game, however as the enemy and boss move sets get more complicated a lot of attacks are becoming hard to make out with a lack of visual clarity, I start finding myself wondering ‘what hit me’ more and more, and even when I find the culprit that’s making the new damage zone I have to avoid its colours blend and mesh with the environment so much that it doesn’t help my chances.

The game looks beautiful in all aspects but I think this is causing combats and movement to blur into that aesthetic. I’m not even particularly visually impaired so I struggle to see anyone with conditions being able to play. Some graphics option to add highlights to enemies and danger zones in combat would help a lot, and if not that just a bit more contrast added so I can see the things I need to avoid.

Could you be more specific? I find That Most of the animations readable.

Some AOE attacks that remain on the ground are sometimes not very readable when they are done in shallow water (they end up under the water and are barely visible).

The same attacks sometimes partially disappear due to a bug that I think has already been reported.

In one area in particular there are some puddles of pestilent water that are barely visible even when you try to pay attention to where they are (and they also do a lot of damage), I believe this has also already been reported.

You could try increasing the contrast and saturation from the settings, and see if it works better for you.

In any case, clearly adding a proper colorblind mode would be a good thing.

I would also love to hear specific examples Ara, please help us understand!

I stand her point. I was struggling a lot in the last boss fight because I couldn’t see the crosshair. At single fights there aren’t any issues, but with more than 3 enemies readability of the battle starts to decline imo.

I also has may issues with aiming system which I posted here before.

I already increased by brightness and contrast to see if it would help, it has slightly but its still a bit less clear than I would like. The boss that got me annoyed enough to report was the second Darak fight in the of rats and raiders quest. Especially the second phases attacks that come up from the ground. But its something I do notice in all areas.

I think a big reason is just how my focus tries to split, I find it hard to focus on the whole screen at once. So places outside of my focus easily start to blend and merge. In a first or third person game this would be fine because my visions restricted, but in the isometric perspective it means there’s so much I need to see that I don’t. Most others I’ve played have little red markers under enemies or similar. A colorblind or highlight mode would go a long way I think yeah

Maybe I can’t understand your difficulties because I don’t have any problems of this kind, but if you could give me some other examples of attacks that you have difficulty with, or even what your eyesight condition is.

This attack you’re talking about can’t be dodged by watching at the ground looking for the tentacles to see where they come from.

You have to watch the boss dig its arms into the ground and then keep walking until the attack ends.

The tentacles always sprout from under your feet, but as long as you’re moving, they won’t hit you (and they also appear at a constant rate so if you have a fast weapon you can attack between one tentacle and the other but with a slow weapon you should just go around the boss until it stops doing that attack).

This phenomenon is called “tunnel vision” and it’s something that happens to everyone. More vivid and flashy colors help a little but they’re not the solution.

With practice, you’ll become able to focus your attention on your surroundings even in isometric view. If this is your difficulty, the problem isn’t in the game’s animations.

For example, if you find yourself surrounded by even basic enemies (who have very readable attacks), if you’re not able to dynamically shift your attention, you’ll still find yourself in difficulty.

I don’t like these types of “markers” I find that they break the immersion, obviously it wouldn’t be a problem if they were an accessibility option that you could disable, but realistically I don’t expect the developers to implement them.

Honestly I misunderstood and thought you were colorblind, I expected you had trouble seeing the purple attacks that remain on the ground. It seems you haven’t encountered them yet. The fact is that, outside of these attacks, I don’t think there are any other examples of enemy attacks that you can spot based on their color contrast (the tentacles you had trouble with have a neutral color (and, as I’ve already explained, you avoid them by looking at the boss and walking, not by looking at the ground to see where they come from)).

So, a colorblind mode would probably help with these purple attacks that remain on the ground, but it wouldn’t be useful in your case since other attacks in the game don’t use colors to be visible.

I find my ability to comfortably play a game more valuable than immersion, I do think a togglable option would be best for everyone and I don’t think its too much to ask from developers.
