First of all, thank you for creating such an incredible game. I’ve been enjoying it more than any game I’ve played in a long time. That said, I’d like to share some constructive feedback regarding the weapon stat scaling system, which I believe is affecting both build flexibility and overall player experience.
One of the most frustrating aspects I’ve encountered is the mismatch between the expected stat scaling of weapons and the actual requirements. For example, I recently defeated the Plague event boss and was excited to see a katana drop—perfect for my Dexterity build. But to my surprise, the katana scaled exclusively with Faith. This kind of logic-breaking requirement has happened multiple times (e.g., warhammers needing high Intelligence), and it often feels discouraging.
I’ve created three different characters with distinct build ideas, but have struggled to implement any of them properly. Each time I finally find a weapon that matches my intended playstyle, I discover I can’t use it without respeccing my entire build because it randomly scales with stats I didn’t invest in. I believe this isn’t an issue of players not understanding the stat system—it’s that the random stat scaling actively prevents players from executing their chosen builds without significant time investment or complete resets.
Possible Suggestions:
- Fixed or Logical Weapon Scaling: Ensure that weapon scaling follows logical expectations (e.g., heavy weapons = Strength, katanas = Dexterity, etc.), or at least allow for some consistency.
- Customizable Scaling System: If you intend to keep RNG-based stat requirements, consider introducing a system that lets us adjust or reassign scaling. For example, converting a Faith requirement into Strength or allowing hybrid scaling (e.g., 26 Strength + 26 Intelligence instead of 42 pure Strength).
- Stat Reallocation Alternatives: Provide easier ways to align weapons with a build, so players aren’t forced to abandon their plans or grind excessively.
I truly hope you’ll consider this feedback. While the core experience of the game is fantastic, the current stat system around weapons creates unnecessary frustration for players trying to enjoy and roleplay their builds.
