Hello everyone! For Patch 1 I decided to start a new character on a new realm after having about 70 hours played prior to the update. These are some of my takeaways from running that character up to the Crucible.
Combat & Story Progression
- The Shallows and Mariner’s Keep felt really good to play through.
- I got to the first boss with only investing points into HP, Stamina, and Equip Load. It was a little difficult, but felt fine still.
- Progressing to the Sewers is where I first felt I ran into a brick wall and caved into spending points into damage stats, in this case, strength.
- Even with that, and some bad RNG of not getting a new STR weapon for a bit led me to go and do the bounties/challenges for more loot and a bit of extra farming.
- I have concluded that the sewers and the enemies within are my least favorite currently…
- Sewer boss was not bad, parried to victory!
- Got a much-needed weapon upgrade after the sewers, which made the Nameless Pass go much more smoothly than the Keep to Sewer transition.
- It wasn’t easy, but it felt like a good challenge throughout the rest of the current content (excluding Crucible).
- Enemies that can use shove attacks AND that camp near ledges are just unfun
- Enemies being able to target from outside the maximum view range does not feel great, especially if pushing challenging content.
- Too many enemies rely on trying to knock you down, constantly. Either less enemies should be able to, or they shouldn’t do it nearly as often.
– This would make backstabbing in combat feel less needed as well. I just want to keep control of my character more or not feel like I have to do a hit and run.
– That or the shove should do DRASTICALLY less damage. - Inconsistency with shields.
– Enemies attacking our block = we still take damage.
– Enemies blocking our attack = 100% negation.
Overall thoughts
- I think only the first (new) house should be immediately unlocked, with “better” ones becoming available as the story progresses.
- With that said, the new home is quite cozy and perfect for starting off. Didn’t feel like I needed to go farm ichor to unlock all my spaces.
- There is a little bit of early tension with choosing between town upgrades or upgrading gear. It would have probably been better to focus on gear first to help with sewers.
- Repairs could probably go up a tad more in price in the early game, although I’m fine with the rate of them breaking.
- There can be a little bit of food shortages early on, but nothing too bad.
- I think Patch 1 has done a lot of amazing things for the game!
- The inventory changes keep getting me a bit mixed us, but I think they are great changes and make more sense.
- FPS tends to tank if enemies have fire enchanted weapons, or there are multiple witches.
Bonus Thoughts
- I still hate those plague wolf things.
- Visual bug with the lad in the war room where their weapon was invisible. It was slightly terrifying but parrying it was hysterical. It almost looked like you just waved them away.
- Gravity is still my biggest enemy.
- The bounties/challenges person should have tabbed menus like vendors do, instead of having to back out then click into the different options.
Post Crucible Thoughts
- The leveling process between beating the twins and hitting level 21 feels pretty bad, especially with the lack of silver available now.
