Feedback after ~45 hours of play

I don’t usually post feedback or reviews, but been a fan of Moon Studios since the first Ori and I want this game to do well so you can continue to produce beautiful games.

A little demographic info - I’m a 45 yo gamer who has about 1, maybe 2, hours a day to play games a day. I always play a caster, and this game has been no different in that regard. I have genuinely enjoyed playing No Rest for the Wicked, so while I’m offering suggestions for changes, I think the art and gameplay have been phenomenal and continue to recommend it to other gamer friends.

  1. You offer the option to not display the helmet on a character, but the character portrait continues to display the helmet. It would be nice if those two things were in sync.

  2. It would be helpful if the character stat page could also give details about your active buffs (and/or debuffs).

  3. Consider adding a cat bed/dog bed housing item that would add a cat or dog to your home (I always pet the animals in town =x).

  4. While the stats/buffs are far from simple, I have found them to be fairly intuitive. I genuinely appreciate when I can play the game and not play the guide. The one thing I’ve found a little confusing is how some of those things interact with Rune abilities (versus weapon attacks). I use a wand, and I’m not sure if my fireball is getting better because I’ve leveled my weapon or increased my Int (or both). I also don’t know how things would interact if I grabbed a plague rune off of a Piety based wand and socketed it into an Int based fire wand. Maybe a clarification in the tutorial entry would clear that up? The new description on the elemental oils (fire infused and +fire damage) was very welcome.

  5. The change to “Perfects” on gathering has been really nice - the dopamine receptors have been firing on all cylinders. Fishing feels very weird though. I can watch the animation and ignore the wheel for chopping, mining, and digging, but I’m not sure what I’m watching for while fishing. I try to watch the circle that’s over my character for the right time to press, but the feedback on timing is over the bobber and I usually miss it visually.

  6. I thought I would hate the daily/weekly quests (it’s something I’ve found tiresome and repetitive with MMOs), but it’s been exactly the opposite. On days where I have less time to play, I can achieve something in the game, get some rewards, and advance my character. Definitely a keeper IMO. It also avoids that feeling I got from BG3 sometimes, where I boot up the game, run around town for an hour, have to log off, and wonder what, if anything, I accomplished.

  7. Not sure if this one is possible, but as an old fart who still wants his in game house to look nice, could there be a toggle-able snap grid for placing housing items? I realize this may not be possible because the homes aren’t perfect squares - I just thought I’d put it out in the universe.

I can’t yet offer any feedback on multi-player (and I realize that was the big feature of this patch). I bought the game for my partner for Christmas - I just have to keep working on getting him excited about it. I appreciate your time - and the beautiful and enjoyable games.
