The default keybindings for trigger buttons (LT RT) and gestures is poor for various reasons.
A. Most people don’t have an Elite Xbox controller so a trigger button for parry will cause input delay just from the nature of the trigger press down. It makes more sense for such a time sensitive function to be on a button like LB/RB.
B. A large portion, maybe most- do not play a heavy build to use the Shoulder Barge- from my experience it feels great digging down on the triggers as you are charging a mob. That’s how I rebound to fix for issue A.
C. Changing the Offhand use keybind does no change the position in UI. With my changes I have Offhand use on RT (block) with mainhand runes on LT. Visually my shield is on the left still and there’s not changing that, making changes to Offhand Item (dpad left) and Mainhand item (dpad right) does not change the items position visually in the UI either. It bugs me and confused my friend who I told to try my keybindings to not have to have that awkward “this control scheme sucks now I have to adjust” to something else moment.
I’m impressed how you have the controller and KBM instant switch, I thought it would have become standard with D4 and Baulder’s Gate 3 implemented it, another Early Access game that would benefit greatly from it does not have that yet- POE2. Still there’s some improvements to be made, D4 may be bad but the controller support/customization options are leading in the ARPG genre. POE2 has great customization but doesn’t have the tap/hold differentiation this game and D4 have.
There are a lot of changes you have planned which are great, did not see this for Patch #1 so wanted to bring it up because at the end control scheme is like tires of a car, they’re the thing that hit the road and affects a lot of the feeling you get. Sometimes defaults are great, but you can’t please everyone- maybe I’m wrong in thinking the defaults suck- but this is one place where you can and should try to make everyone happy as it does not change the vision. Remember sweaty gamers will have Elite controllers (controllers with rebindable paddles in the back) and are happy to rebind things for some benefit, mostly L3 R3 because it’s easier to hit a paddle than press those- so the level of customization allowed goes a long way to make this set of gamers happy.
