[Combined] Pestilence zone blur effect too oppressive

Hi, I find myself wanting to invest a lot of time in the future in this game because I just love it and the team behind it, so here is some other feedback after investing 100+ hours looking at an purplish screen most of my time in the endgame.

In the beginning I didn’t have much of the Pestilence active, now after playing for 100+ hours I realised that I play 80%+ of my time in this fog. It really takes away the immersion and the beautiful vibrant colours that I love in the game, constantly covered by the purple fog and some blurriness on the edges of my screen is frustrating and annoying to always look at.

Please an option to only have the fog active on the map itself and not in the game so I can see where the Pestilence outbreak is but I don’t want it active when I am playing.

Please do something about this blue haze that covers the pestilence areas.

It’s very bad for the eye and spending a long time running around it quickly tires your eye.

Please.

  • Remove pestilence purple haze
  • Keep pestilence purple haze

Any possibility to get this into a future patch? just an option for it, I guess it’s just a purple overlay on the screen that should be easy to turn off?

i moved these two topics together  consolidates votes and feedback.

thx for mering the posts  totaly agree with BlackWaterPirate on this. At least an option would be nice to turn it off. The purple overlay really covers up the beatiful world that is crafted by you which is really sad.

It would be a great option to remove it.

I didn’t vote. Only because I think total removal maybe not necessary. I do find the amount of haze is too much.

Toning it down may be enough?

Maybe put purple plague stuff around instead? Heck if you want to be mean you could put plague puddles around (Btw, those should be more purply and not so similar to normal ground).

I mean a plagued border around the screen would be fine or something more creative like you said, plague puddles would be cool.

The haze actually ruins the maps.

Yeah it does tend to hurt the eyes. At least with my OLED TV. I think a plagued border would be ok but I think some environmental things would be nice. Maybe some areas of haze like the guys drop sometimes to hide in. Plague puddles. Something scattered and not overwhelming that tells you the pestilence is present but not overly so. Maybe flying beasts that you can’t actually interact with (like bats).

I don’t know if the flora and fauna is supposed to be effected but that could be a thing. Trees rotting (and you can’t cut them down). Twisted versions of the wildlife (foxes, deer, rabbits, chicken, etc.).

purple haze no good??? oh Jimi…

maybe purple rain then??? LOL

I actually like the purple vibe, but the haze’s distortion effect feels unnecessary. I think a stronger visual impact could come from adding purple fog directly in the environment, that changes the area appearance rather than using an overlaid distortion filter.

Pestilence zone blur effect was too oppressive for my eyes to handle. I felt nauseous and had to turn off the game. It looked like some area was more blurry than others but I can’t tell it for sure.

I can’t praise you enough for making this stunningly beautiful game, there must be a way to indicate pestilence effect without making everything blurry.

Thank you!

I had to stop playing this game because the aberration effect was so bad! It made me super sick after only 20 minutes of playing in a pestilence zone.

As someone with motion sickness sensitivity I always check games for accessibility options before buying and this game had them… until you’re 20-some hours in and most of your gameplay is in these motion sickness inducing zones.

Devs: PLEASE add a toggle for the aberration effect! It is really nauseating to play!

None of our group have any issue with the colouring and blurring/smearing, but if there are players that legitimately have issues with it simply adding an intensity slider or toggle would resolve entirely?

No rest for the wicked is normally very visually appealing and the environments are beautiful. During a pestilence outbreak we get this purple visual effect, which not only causes eye strain, but really detracts from the gorgeous and diverse levels. Clearing multiple zones becomes boring more quickly due to all of the normally well differentiated environments all feeling the same because of the lighting and pestilence effect.

Maybe instead of making everything purple and putting this strange moving blur all over the screen.. we could just do some contamination of the wildlife/corpses etc?

Yes, the visual representation of plagued zones needs an update. Purple outline does not look great and is busy for the eyes.

You are not the fitst one to mention this, but so far no changes were made.

We need more noise people!

I agree. That effect on the edge of the screen is really bad. Motion sickness comes in, and you can barely see what enemies are doing.

i had to resurrect this, as someone who spends his entire life in pestilence.

the game’s textures are fantastic, you can feel the taste of sea, mud and stone in your mouth when you look at them

then the game quietly washes over it with a purple tint.

and you can’t see any of the beauty anymore

that + the very monotonic pestilence ambient background = no joy

i agree that the purple effect should be confined to specific parts of the map - the water, some very faint highlights.

make the ambient music vary from zone to zone too

you know we just be farming pestilence chaining zones all the time

Hi,

I would like to ask whether it is possible to add in game options, a possibility to set level of violet tint when Pestilence Outbreaks is added on the area? I get the idea of changing a scenario to “darker” one but on some maps the effect is too intense in my opinion. An effect slider in options could solve this and give use possibility to make game experience even better.

BTW…Moon! Great work with this game so far! Looking forward for 1.0
