One of the large improvements the game could make is to give the player more Cerim flavor and active lore through the naming and vfx of some abilities.
Right now, the only thing telling you that you are a Cerim in the game is the fact that NPC’s refer to you as such, and that you respawn on Whispers. The NPC’s tell you that you bear markings of the Cerim, but where are they? I see no distinct features.
If you could rename Utility runes to “Phrases” or “Invocations”, and give the utility rune abilities Cerim themed VFX, it would bring the Cerim background of the player more into life.
The whole Show, Don’t Tell principle, but better: Show AND Tell.
I really want to encourage a better introduction of the player’s Cerim background into the beginning of the story. It is really not explained at all who the Cerim are in the intro to the game unless you go to external third party sources or wade several hours into the game for NPC’s to tell you what you do.
Really, something as simple as a nicely textured and colored letter or tablet that your character carries in the key inventory and you read before going to bed on the ship would help a ton with establishing your character.
Are you the last of the Cerim, or one of a still functional order? Were you in a leadership position, or just a foot soldier? What’s your experience prior to coming to Sacra?
Make players own their character’s background earlier instead of the character just being a silent vehicle or empty canvas upon which the rest of the cast paint themselves on.
