Bounty and challenge reward levels get nerfed in coop?

Shared Realm with 1 other player, US server

Players are level 25 and 24 (campaign item drops are level 11, crucible item drops level 12)

Issue: When playing alone, bounty and challenge rewards drop at item level 12. As soon as a second player joins, bounty rewards drop at level 7.

Reproducible: Yes, consistently. Items go from 12 to 7, even in the rewards preview, as soon as a second player joins the realm.

Not tested: We have not yet explicitly tested if finishing a bounty locks it, but I’m pretty sure it happened before that I finished one solo, friend joined, rewards collected, level 7.

We’ve noticed this happening at least since we started getting level 8 item drops in the campaign missions. The rewards in coop are considerably under-leveled and mostly useless unless collected when solo.

UPDATE:

Tested it now:

If you finish a bounty solo, the rewards will drop 5 levels as soon as another player joins.

When you finish a bounty in coop and the other player leaves, the rewards increase by 5 to the (presumably) correct level.

This happens both for the rewards preview and the actual rewards, and it’s not just a UI error - the items actually change level as soon as someone joins or leaves.

I can confirm this bug is still around.

A friend and I share a realm where we play co-op together. I’m not sure if it matters, but our characters are both the same level (23) and we have progressed this particular server together.

If one of us (myself, for example) logs into the realm and checks the rewards for the daily/weekly bounty/challenges, the equipment in the rewards will be level 12 due to our current world progression.

If my friend then joins the realm and we’re both on it together, the equipment that is listed in the rewards decreases down to level 7.

If I tell my friend to log off, leaving me alone in the realm, the equipment in the rewards shifts up to level 11.

If I then log out of the realm and log back in again (alone), the equipment rewards will bump up to the original level 12 again.

This isn’t a visual/UI-display bug - if we complete the bounty/challenge, the actual level of the rewards we receive matches what we see in the interface at that moment, which we can manipulate the level of in the manner I described above.

This is easily reproduceable. It doesn’t matter how many players are present when the bounty/challenge is accepted, or how many players are present when the bounty/challenge is completed. The only thing that matters is how many players are present when the bounty/challenge is turned in to collect the reward. If only one player is logged into the realm, the rewards are level 12. If both of us are logged into the realm, the rewards are level 7. If both of us log into the realm and one of us logs off, the rewards are level 11.
