Better Early Mage Options

As someone who strictly plays mages or sorcs in every RPG I feel starting out as a mage is REALLY rough. I understand that ranged damage is probably really strong with this kind of level and game design but man I’m having a really hard time playing out my mage fantasy in this game.

What I would like to see:

Better ways to regen focus, whether that is through passive regen via stat investment or being able to craft focus potions. I understand there needs to be a fine line of balance so that you can’t spam from range but I’m also not a fan of the D4 style resouce generator and spender attacks. I want to live out my mage fantasy!

Would also like to see a respec option early because I’m struggling to progress with my investment in health focus and int as a mage. This is after upgrading my staff several times. I’m not new to souls like difficulty in games, I actually rather enjoy it. I believe the game could benefit from a little more diversity in options given to the mage playstyle early.

Ideally though, respec would not be neccessary if there were adequate ways to regen focus early game. Would also love to see more spell/rune diversity for staves at the start.

Good news, both the things you want are in the works.

Focus Regen is a pretty common bonus but it’s currently bugged. It takes like an hour to fill up, the devs said they’re looking into it.

Respec, the devs said they’re working on this though they said it will be costly to do.

Did they say anything about the stat requirements to use weapons, on a point related to respec?

They had been terribly high, and also terribly randomly distributed. After I beat the twins, my strength build couldn’t use any T2 weapons, and I put it down for a while. My shields, axes, maces, all required a very high faith or int stat (like, 22)

what they should add for staff and bows is basic attack that regenerate focus to use stronger skills

That does exist but it’s something you have to build towards instead of start with. Gems or gear rolls that have damage gains focus, or focus use gains focus do cause the 15 cost arrow to gain you focus rather than spend it, but you have to get those added to your build first.

@BattlePuffin I know they’ve been tweaking some of the weapon stat requirements. Like the first boss would drop a greatsword that required 22 strength, now it only requires 11.

what i mean is melee weapons have basic attacks but staff and bow would have arrow and spell that dont use focus and dosnt need you to press rune skill button but only normal attack button
