After reading for the last few hours hundreds of comments I get the argument on both sides of the fence. There seems to be misconceptions and confusion partly due to the fact there isnt a singular detailed post about the class system from the devs. I believe I get the the jist of it; you dont actually select a class its determined by what you equip? (Someone said they will have ultimates so fo you actual select a class?) Play with the gear you unlock traits, master a weapon you unlock the rune, and you can equip any 6 traits and each archetype has 16 weapons (16 runes per archtype im assuming).
There is a lot of flexibility in the upcoming system and I really love what the devs have done with the overall game so Im willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. The problem is what Ive seen the devs and players say against the attribute system. Its restricitve not because there isnt an answer that works its how you its implemented. Soulframe is an example of the old answer to the attribute problem, you simply introduce a loot table that has different weapons that scale off of non traditional attributes (e.g STR scaling magic staff). You reign this in by allowing such a non traditional weapon be affective but not scale as high as someone who specializes in magic and offers something unique so its still strong and different (e.g rune is a close ranged aoe melee attack that scales off of missing HP). Remove stat requirements so a base weapon is effective at its repective level but scales bonus damage from its attribute, have set enemies, crafting, bosses, and sold items at different milestones that offer these weapons with endgame having a wider (maybe even a more complex) variety. Couple that with some weapon types having different or mixed scaling to begin with and make runes scale off of weapon damage so a weapon that scales off of Health and Intelligence for example will still deal good damage for somone with split stats ( I believe runes already scale with weapon damage). The upcoming system is freedom anyways so why not just make resetting attributes free or low investment?
On one side with attributes I can build however I want and find weapons that allow me to play how I want. The job system thats coming lets me pick up anything I want but I have to focus on using specific weapons for an extended time to play how I want. The first gives me complete agency on my strengths the latter pre determines my stregnths with set traits that allow me to augment my them. All the weight will be put on your creativity with the traits you offer to us and how you balance that. I would really recommend a playtest of the job system but I will play whatever you deliver with an open mind.
Correct, the class you level into is determined by the weapon you’re using. There will be some kind of restrictions for runes, though we don’t know details. They said they aim for 10-16 weapons per class.
I exclusively play Bows and Spears, will this still be possible after the class update or will I have to grind other weapons just to get the full potential out of my spear + bow playstyle? Will there be any drawbacks by using 2 weapons from different classes (there is currently none as long as both have the same attribute scaling) or is the “optimal” way to just grind every forkin class to get access to all utility? -.-
To clarify, do you mean 16 weapons per weapon archetype or 16 weapons available to be used by each class? Because if the weapon I have equiped determines which class I am, does that mean 1 weapon can level up multiple classes or class is determined by weapon and armor combo? I read through that post and several of the comments in addition to watching a few videos and info is split between Discord, X, and this forum. We could use a comprehensive post by the dev team becuase its confusing ro try and understande atm.
Based on my understanding with the upcoming system you would be rewarded for playing with your chosen weapons which means you will get better at your playstyle as time goes on. Im assuming you will still be able ro still equip more than one weapon but Im not sure how that would work because it isnt clear how your class is determined or locked in.
10-16 weapons for each class, though it’s mostly a single weapon type per class so it’s basically the same. A single weapon will generally only level into one class, but there might be exceptions. The class is solely determined by the weapon you’re using, not the armor.
The Wicked Inside in October should answer most of the open questions about the class system.
These are the official forums if the devs arent checking here that would be bad. No one is speculating Im trying to understand the facts, the earlier we can express our feelings the sooner the devs can make changes or clarify. If they release the game and everyone unanimously hates the changes they will be in a far worse position and the only way to make up the time would be another delay.
No minds are made up other than the devs, all we are trying to do here is understand. We need clarification and hopefully that comes in October. I really like the flexibility in the current system and improving it to me would make more sense over abondoning it outright with an overhaul. The devs seem confident though but information is sparse and spread out over different platforms so it creates confusion. I spent hours reading comments and looking at different posts for info and its not clear.
Im in full support of the devs but I to clarify why this matters to me and likely other people. An attribute system is becoming rare and it offers something unique, I really enjoyed it here its part of what I fell in love with about the game. The ability to craft myself as a character is becoming a lost art in favor of class or job systems with guard rails. The new system can offer a lot of flexibility but it will heavily depend on the creativity of the dev team along with the variety they offer. Ill wait and see; I bought the game early because I want to support the team and whats there is good even if I might wind up not liking the changes, I know the devs still made their work of art.
Its often good to give feedback in a timely manner, the earlier there is a conversation the sooner changes can be made. If there no planned alpha test waiting for major changes at official launch could make or break the game. As mentioned prior waiting to hear more info.
