Why default attack for Mages is Melee attack?

Hi,

I am trying to play a Mage, and in every other game, I have a default ranged attack which doesn’t consume mana.

Because of the limitation of level, which is 30, with “only” 87 points, it’s impossible to play melee with a mage: you can’t wear a heavy armor and you have to move quickly so to remain light.

So attacking with the first ranged attack, which consume 50 focus, rarely obtain this amount of focus especially in front of a boss which doesn’t die quickly, and to be obliged to consume focus flask in a loop, and to buy those flasks in a loop. Well, something is very not optimized here.

The problem is also: all the ranged attack of the Mage are too powerful i’ comparison with the first attack of a default weapon lvl1. You have no leveling in the special attack. Some are insanely powerful, so to have to ability to use them without focus will be a major problem of “over-power”.

I would like a kind of default ranger attack, to replace the melee one’s…

In a way, all the focus based’s gameplays are problematic in a way: the impression I have, we don’t have to use the special attack often. But if we want ?

The same problems appear in the past with the main attack in Diablo4 with a lack of ressources all the time.
