Weapon scaling need clarification

Hello I read on the internet that some weapons scale with weight, some big two handed weapons will make more damage if you are heavy. I wanted a confirmation and wanted to know how can i figure that out in game. I read the description of the weapons and i found no where this description. At this point i am guessing that you also scale if you are light (for some weapons). Could someone explain and most of all where can i find this information because i couldn’t find it in the description of the weapons. Thank you

If this is true, I am totally unaware. The only scaling I know of is from the stats which are clearly shown on the weapon. Never heard of equip load playing any role. Care to share your sources? Might be based on older versions of the game.

I only know about Fetid Club? (Because of its unique enchantments) Dont know if its working as intended tho.. as i havent tested it since the older versions.

Is there any other?

No other weapon directly scales with weight.

The only other situation I can think of is if you have one of the Crucible echoes that increase some statistic (damage?) for every 100 unused weight.

this is the link where it tells that the fetid club scales… Askan94 confirms. Now this gives rise to a question: why its not written in the weapon description? how should someone figure out that it scales? just by trial and error? are we sure that this is the only weapon that scales with weight? are there i.e. knives that can scale if your light?

It is written in there, actually. Weapon descriptions are self-explanatory.

Without meaning to denigrate the site you linked, it looks like clickbait and pretty much nothing in it is useful. It just lists a bunch of uniques and makes vague claims about them being ‘meta’. Uniques are neither good nor, I’d wager, commonly used, perhaps outside of certain rings.

And yes, we can be sure there are no others since there are full lists of enchantments and unique gear floating around online.

Please do not take as a personal attack when I suggest not making claims like ‘X needs clarification’ if you have no knowledge of the game. The game does, in fact, clarify.

Just a reminder this is the old version of the weapon but it still is using similar wording: “Damage increases with current weight” just that its a bit more informative now like: “Damage increased by % of current weight” or similar..

Current version of the description. Apologies for the poor quality, nabbed this from a low-quality recording.

thank you i actually didn’t see that.

Whoa! Good sir, Falstead’s Barricade with 900 focus and Tarnished Wand is pretty OP. Falstead’s Fury in a parry build slaps. Proud Lance makes you invincible if you can keep moving. Falling Sky stamina regen via focus use is interesting. Midnight Blade is pretty good in a full lightning build. Everything else has been lackluster for me though.

Ha! Forgive my hyperbole, you are right. The Lacquered Bow isn’t exactly underpowered either. I let myself be tempted to oversimplify.

word of death 1-shots any boss with black pearls!

sinew is awesome burst.

corpse smeared blade ? esp at lvl

the Faith lightning wand + Faith shield with enlinghtment = insane nukes

i could go on..

but i won’t, cause i don’t remember any more

p.s. i don’t think any of them are more powerful than just a blue/red item fully maxed out. just unique.

what i would like clarification on is how exactly runes scale with weapon damage. seems like nearly every rune has its own scaling, with some sharing the same modifier

How do you burst with sinew? Every time I’ve tried using it, I felt like the moveset was horrible.

ok i had it working like this:

my sinew character had a regular set up with gear full of:

  • phys dmg%
  • arpen
  • CSC/CSD

so very straightforward full damage

with normal attacks - the first one probes, the 2nd one moves in and strikes, and the 2nd attack lands very shortly after the 1st - that’s where the burst is - because they are so close together if you connect the 1st. and the expensive rune is heavy damage too once the gear has enough damage stats on it. the cheap rune does ok too.

we’re talking ~1000 dmg for the normal attack’s 1+2 combo, so not like a nuke, but very quick to execute.

so… any weapon would be bursty there. sinew just has the huge damage buff when enemies are <50% hp

Weapon base damage is modified by attributes[1], then modified with a set percentage specific to the rune (or even the attack in the rune’s chain, but only a few runes have different modifiers per attack; notably Piercing Flurry). Speed is not modified, so weapons with high base damage have devastating runes.[2]

Damage calculation example for lv. 1 Pig Sticker at 14 Dex performing Fierce Dash: (10 base dmg ⋅ 1.28 for Dex) ⋅ 4 for the rune.

These percentages are available in third-party websites [link]. I’ve checked a few, seems mostly accurate. Incidentally, I consider the cheap rune on Sinew one of the best in the game, second only to Stormpiercer.

(Would be nice to find this info in-game, though it might remove the veil on certain runes being downright worse versions of others, or tempt players to evaluate runes based solely on damage percentages rather than animations.)

  1. An additive increase of 7% per point for single-attribute scaling for the first five points, then 6% per point for the next five, then 10% for the next ten, then 4% to a point I didn’t bother to test. ↩︎

  2. This is a solved problem in games that implement concepts like motion values. ↩︎

thanks ! i checked the site with runes before, must’ve been unlucky and the rune i checked they had the wrong multiplier so i just assumed it was out of date.

it would be nice if the game told you on a tooltip what the rune actually does in numbers. we can totally play just selecting by vibes (i do) but clarity is nice.

i really like that in NRFTW the base weapon damage is a simple number, not a floating value based on 5 coefficients like in some other games. would be nice to have the same simple info available in game for runes too. or give us mod tools and we will take care of it !
