WASD Overhaul for PC

The current implementation of movement on PC is very clunky, especially for a game that depends so heavily on precise movements for fighting (the auto-target does help here) and also for navigating the world. For example, being unable to move in a straight line while walking a plank of a downed tree overhang. Currently, PC players have to alternate between two keys to move left and right to achieve a straight path which is really just carefully zigzagging. There are many more examples of such cases.

I highly suggest implementing a WASD movement style similar to V Rising where your character turns to follow your mouse direction while also still using WASD for movement. This would add much needed precision to PC player’s control of their character.

I would like that too. Your character should face where your cursor is.

To be honest, most controls and the UI, in parts, on PC need an overhaul.

You simply can’t release a game, or any other software, and ignore basic standards of the release platform without severely impacting the user / player experience.

The most prominent yet luckily not the most impactful example in this game is probably the placing of items in your house: Those controls are, for PC standards, just as bad as the base building in Starfield (which ironically did overhaul the system for the starship building).

To many, especially console players, this might look unimportant, but look at it this way: If only 10-20% of players, which is probably the very low end, feel uncomfortable because the game doesn’t feel like other games on PC, this will lead to lower reviews despite the amazing art style, voice acting etc., and this will lead to at least a few percent lower sales. – And some people will outright not play a game because of it.

If you like the game, even if it doesn’t matter to you personally, you should care about such things, because every happy player will support the game and that in turn gives the studio motivation and the means to make the game even better, or the next one.

It obviously doesn’t need to be the top priority, but UI, UX and controls must be platform specific on any large platform, like PC: It’s a valuable but woefully ignored investment in a product that, considering how much work goes into a game like this, is also a pretty cheap one.

Have same feeling as TS. You have very flexible and precisefull way for character turning during movement or combat, while playing DS/Elder RIng on keyboard+mouse. And you expect to being able use it here too, as it is highly effect on way how you feel your character if playing on mouse+keyboard. For me it seems as basic standard, would be glad if devs change it or add as extra option for kb+m users.

I struggled with this when the game was first available. As a result I didn’t play much at all.

Revisiting the game after the Breach update I have remapped what for me are the essential keys. So far I have been having a blast playing.

For the curious here are my changes:

Mouse and Keyboard Scheme
Q - Offhand (shield block for me)
W - Shoulder Barge
E - Parry
R - Interact
F - Food

Mouse Buttons:
Left - Attack
Middle - Walk/Run Toggle
Right - Walk to Cursor

I am always in Run mode. If you position the cursor close to your character they will walk which I usually do on tricky spots. I will switch the Walk/Run toggle when faced with the longer stretches or in areas where the fall is certain death, lol.
