Two hand one handed weapons

I’m wanting to fulfill the fantasy of a samurai. To do so, I’d love to be able to two-hand a one-handed Wakizashi/Katana. Or to have a Katana and a Wakizashi in each hand.

In general, I’d love to be able to two-hand a one-handed weapon that would add more attack Dmg to it, or give a different attack set. Something. Currently while using a Wakizashi I feel like I am being wasteful by not having a secondary weapon. But having a Samurai with a shield seems strange. And having a Wakizashi with a bow is thematically ok, but I’d like the option like in Elden Ring to two-hand it.

I’m not completely opposed to the ‘2-hand a 1-hand weapon’ concept…
but…

maybe you are looking for it in the wrong place (game), no??
just sayin’

Nah. I have Ghost of Tsushima. I can go be a “real samurai” somewhere else. I love NRFTW and I want to be a Samurai in this game. I know class systems are coming, which include Samurai, but I hope that you can two hand a samurai sword in that system. Until then, I’d love to do it in this version.

well, fair enough… is just I’m not sure if it does fit thematically in this game, and thus I wouldn’t hold my breath for it… but then again, what do I know? XD

Think it’d be a neat adaptation for Wicked to let us 2H a 1H weapon with stances.

Yeah I think that would be sick.

I dont know how nobody mentioned this yet, but theyre adding two handed katanas. your fantasy will be fullfilled eventually
Though now that you mentioned it, something like a small parrying blade would be a cool offhand. I think thats what wakizashis were meant for

Yeah a parry blade could be fun for sure.

If I got my favorite ash of war… unsheathe… would be cool. Wicked lacks the ducking mechanic cause of the hitboxes but it’d still be fun I bet.

no, that is not what Wakizashi were meant for… in broad terms they were essentially spare Katana for use indoors…
unless fighting one of the Nitou Ryu (dual swords schools/styles), in which case yeah, the Wakizashi would be used to parry as well (not exclusively, same for Tachi)…
just bear in mind that if fighting Niten Ichiryu, Wakizashi is held on the right hand, not left…

Oh cool! I didn’t know that. I kinda thought the Wakizashi was just their version of a katana.

When they do this, I hope they allow us to choose to hold a Katana in one hand and a Wakizashi in another. Or two Katana’s for that matter, as its realistic to dual wield them (ala Musashi).

nope… lol… Niten Ichiryu is the school of Kenjutsu created by Miyamoto Musashi, and is as I’ve explained above… although there are other schools where in fact one holds two Tachi, is kinda silly, and arguably Musashi’s style is not only the best, is the only one likely actually used for real combat (historically speaking)… and that’s why I meant on the beginning of the thread, about this not being really thematically fit… (it just sounds weird to me to reference stuff just to portrait it wrong)…
BTW: Katana means sword, the Japanese style single edge, for foreign style swords/blades usually double edged the word used is Ken… for Japanese made Katana the naming is Nihon Tou… so, wielding both a Tachi and Wakizashi (Dai Sho) at the same time still consists of holding 2 Katana… and even tho we are straying further away from the topic (kinda LOL) there is a practical and realistic reason why the Wakizashi (shorter one) ends up held on the right hand (irregardless of being righty or lefty, there was no such thing as lefty in feudal Japan LOL)…

Yeah, I didn’t realize that Musashi’s two sword style meant Wakizashi and Tachi. Interesting. That makes more sense. I always pictured him holding two Tachi.

So back to the main point: I’d like to be able to hold a Tachi in two hands and also a Tachi in one hand and Wakizashi in another.

At a high level (forgetting Tachi/ Wakizashi), I’d love to be able to take any one handed swords and place one in each hand rather than being forced to have a one handed sword and an off-hand weapon like a bow.

yeah, well, there’s a lot of stuff on the internet and popular culture… tho not necessarily true, not even realistic to be honest… (I ought to know, I’ve trained Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu for years, including Niten Ichiryu)
trust me, Ghost of Tsushima is the very best and closest you can get to the “True Samurai” fantasy you’ve mentioned… even if a tad unrealistic at times, taking some creative licenses, still the best portrait of real Samurai sword play I’ve ever experienced outside of, you know, Kenjutsu itself… not to mention Japanese culture in general…

fair enough XD

Thomas confirmed there will be 2H katana on Twitter.
