The walking speed is killing the game for me

Don’t know if this will be seen, but I’ll add my voice anyways.

I adore this game. I played non stop last year at release until I finished it. I never do that with games, but I was just so hooked with this one I actually had a problem lol.

But now, everything in the combat and movement through the world just feels awkward and clunky. I don’t know if it’s just me or something was changed

My main complaint is the walking speed. It is so atrociously, painfully slow. It feels like my character is trudging through 3 feet of snow and that stinks in action RPG. Why does he need to walk so slow EVERYWHERE; did he suffer from a stroke and is in the process of having physical therapy?

The problem here is that the waking speed is so slow that it’s basically worthless for everything except balancing across beams, which is such a small part of the game. Outside of that, EVERYTHING thing you use walking for feels awful; picking up herbs, opening chests, basically ANY movement that isn’t running feels cumbersome and aggravating. It makes the WHOLE gameplay feel awkward and frustrating.

The slow walk also causes a problem where you NEED to run everywhere, which leads you to falling off edges and cliffs way more often. It is just so frustrating. Again, for me, walking is so slow that it is worthless for ANYTHING other then those rare movements when you’d prefer fine motion like balancing on a beam, everything else just feels frustrating and it’s finally gotten on my nerves where I’m done playing (couldn’t even get far enough into the new update to see what they changed).

I had the same issue last year and it’s sad to see it’s still the same. I was hoping this was just an oversight but I think This must mean that no one else has this issue or the developers think it feels fine. It DOESNT, not for me at least.

I think the feature to toggle between run and walk is new and it’s a great addition that helps a little but the fundamental problem is still there. After a couple hours of playing, I was about done with it.

A simple solution would be to allow an option to increase the walking speed, programming the pressure of the joystick to correlate with walking speed wold be nice too (small move of the joystick for the current speed), but I would love to just have the option to increase the walking speed by 20-30 percent.

But this is another problem with the game, it really seems like they’re so many aspects where qol features aren’t there and the player is left with these tedious, slow systems that just make the game feel bad to play

  • you must walk like you’re 85 years old with advanced osteoporosis
  • You can’t easily fast travel wherever you want
  • You inventory is too limited and arbitrary that a great sword takes up the same space as a finger ring.
  • You must wait for your settlements to be built, so turn off the game and come back later if you don’t want to grind.

These things are just squeezing the life out of a game that should be so fun and challenging.
I would FAR rather be able to move through the world better and sacrifice the very rare times I need to balance across a beam.

So I’m going to put the game away for a while and hope for a change or maybe someone to create a mod because it bothers me that much. There are other issues with the game but this would be the only one I’d fix if I had to choose.

Please, PLLLLLLLLLEASE fix the walking speed. Just allow the option for the people who want it faster and keep it the same for the players who like it. I do t develop games but wouldn’t that be a simple thing to add that would make everyone happy? Seems so to me.

So I’ll wait for release at this point but if the game doesn’t feel better to play next time, I’m not playing it again. Sucks to say that but that’s where im at.

I genuinely can’t tell what the issue is. You’re not forced to walk at all. You can run around all you want.

I explained it here. Walking is so ridiculously slow that it makes the whole game feel sluggish. Ugg, I loved this game last year but it’s kind of trash now. It plays like hot garbage and all of the annoying, time wasting crap you’ve got to do makes this game go into the “not worth your time” section

I’m just wondering why you wouldn’t run instead of walk. You say it makes the “whole game” feel sluggish, so that implies you’re just walking exclusively everywhere you go. Why not run instead?

When you discover you can run, your head will explode

I play on heavy weightload and even then the walking speed isn’t an issue. The levels have so many tight turns and fall off points that if the walking speed was increased you would instead see an increase of people complaining that they keep falling off everywhere. My suggestion to OP is to bind the toggle run to the L stick push to run anywhere, and turn it off during combat or exploration.

That does help a little. I just bind it to a button that I can easily toggle off and on. Makes it feel a little better but I still think walking is way too slow. I think it would be much better if it were maybe 20 to 30% faster.

I guess I’m the only one it bothers. Makes the game feel kinda if janky for me personally. Just seems like a really silly thing to let bring the game down when they could just add an option for walking speed.

Maybe my post was too long.
I’m saying I do run everywhere but the times you need to slow down and walk, the walking is still too slow.

I’ve seen other people complain about it too but maybe it’s rare. For me, it’s very jarring and it just needs to be increased slightly.

I’m surprised me people aren’t bothered by how slow it is.

I can’t think of any situation where I need to walk for anything more than half a second. The fact that this is such a game-ruining thing for you is bizarre.

So, I’ve played a while long (got addicted again, lol) and my opinion is that, Yes, the walking speed is too slow for most instances in the game. However, I was overreacting to say it ruins the game, it just makes it a little more annoying to play. I think it does come in handy in those moments where you are are platforming though. It is really great that they added in a walk/run toggle and let you map it to a button. That makes it much smoother to play, lets you easily swap between running and walking easily.

I still think they should had in an option to increase the walking speed a little bit or maybe a mod will come one day. For me, I think I’d like it to be about 15 to 20 percent faster. I think that would make the movement in general feel better and it should still be slow enough to navigate those tricky platforming areas

Lol, there are issues with the game but the walk speed being too slow? Game is trash because of it?! Hahahaha okay that’s pretty fun, cheers for that.

I feel like that they intentionally make the walking speed slow to prevent the players from pulling off a “Dark Souls 1”? In DS1, players can easily walk behind attacking enemies, making backstabs free, which feels cheesy sometimes. Hence, the walk speed is slow in this game, so that in combat, you need to choose between rolling and sprinting to avoid attacks.

Awww…. Did I shame the honor of your video game in a forum where people are supposed to express the problems they have with it? Poor poor baby, but remember that time heals all wounds.

Yeah, you’re probably right. It’s probably less of an issue than I’m making it and I’m sure there are areas where the speed feels right. In combat it feels perfect.

Put minimum 20 points in stam, get agility ring and have auto run enabled. Easy!

Hahahaha you certainly shamed something, but it wasn’t the game.
