The Big 1.0 - 6th March Q&A Summary

The Big 1.0 - Information from the 6th March Q&A Stream with Patrick, Corey and Thomas

  • There will be a full wipe (characters and realms). Think of it like a relaunch of No Rest for the Wicked. It will be an extremely content-rich and really systemic game.
  • No specifics on month, date (or year) yet.

The Class System
(This will be tested in a closed PTR prior to 1.0 public launch)

  • The old attribute system is going away. It’s been quite unfriendly to players in the sense of ‘What do I invest my attribute points in?’ at the start of the game, this causes people to stifle and hoard attribute points until later. Then you have the other group of players that are putting points in but realise down the road that they need a respec. We want players to have as much power as possible which is why we are going down the FFT route for classes. You were already kinda able to play any class you wanted but there was nothing in Wicked that explained how to do that/put the class system (e.g what runes do you use for this class? what enchantments?).,
  • As you defeat enemies, there is a new progession currency. Its not the same as XP, its currently called SP (skill points) internally but will likely change. SP is how you will buy into your class traits and Cerim runes.,
  • Traits will now define your build as passives. You will get passive bonuses as you define your gameplay.,
  • Cerim runes. They are replacing Utility Runes. You will be able to equip up to 8 Cerim Runes at a time. We want Cerim runes to make sense to each class and serve the class well.,
  • And of course, the other defining class feature is your choice of weapon and what runes you have on that weapon.,
  • We are overhauling the stats screen to show everything, clear cut. Initially, we didnt want to overwhelm the playerbase so we generalised the stats but the response has been clear, show us everything! We want to be able to do the math and show how every single value affects our character.,
  • A lot of inspiration from fighting games – Every class needs a gap closer, or combo runes, or a block breaker, or a knockdown and so on.,
  • We are not limiting you on how many classes you can scale at the moment so that you can have the full unlimited experience of just spending hundreds of hours in Wicked without getting bored.,
  • Ability to switch rune placement inside weapons.,
  • Every class will have their archetypes and an ultimate is one of them.,

Sacrament Expansion
Some of you already found these areas!.. Well they will be coming and will feature varying gameplay elements such as..,

  • ..the farming system! Growing crops, planting things, harvesting them and either selling them or eating them for buffs or maybe other things.,
  • There will be purchasable farmhouses that come with a plot of land. These farmhouses are on the outskirts of Sacrament.,

(Please keep in mind that these RPG elements are secondary. The core of Wicked will always be kept true and focused on precision combat, etc. These are just fun features that you can choose to engage in or not when you want to relax a little).

Buyback Functionality
More complicated than you might think. Things design-wise are affected as well. We have to consider things like vendors that roll their items at a certain time of day. If you’ve sold an item to a vendor, do they roll those sold items at the same time as their general store? How long do these last too because in the context of Co-Op, can my friend buyback an item I accidentally sold? Stuff like that is being looked into.,

Housing Items
Two or three times more housing furniture, decor, etc!,

Factions
Severed Hand faction for example, is all about becoming a murderer or an assassin, or a rogue. We’ll send you on quests that really lean into this playstyle. Even story-wise, its set up that way.

Callout System

This is a system where you get small hints on how you played. Meaning that if you just performed the fatality, it makes that clear. Right now, we have a lot of these mechanics in the game where yes, fatalities are a thing and even some enchantments that reward you for performing a fatality but its not necessarily super clear when you kill two enemies at once. The enchantment system will also work with the callout system. If you played really well and stylish and son on, there will be enchantments for that. So they reward you if you played in a cool way. If youre playing an assassin for example, youll be rewarded for being super sneaky like a ninja. Thats the idea, at least. Its just basically really nice feedback for the player.,

New Crucible Mode - Horde Mode
Inspired by Gears and Vamp Survivors.,

  • It’s not going to be about clearing room after room. It will be one big arena with waves and waves of enemies coming at you.,
  • You’ll get yourself a small break from the enemies by defeating them.,
  • Buy boons but oh no-- more enemies coming!,
  • At some point, bosses spawning, then elites spawning!
