Sorting by Type

I am not sure if I am understanding the sorting by type function correctly. I had thought it would group the pants together, however it seems not to be the case. I understand a patch has already been pushed for a similarly reported issue a year ago linked below.

Appreciate if someone can confirm if this is the intended behavior?

Maybe it is sorted after armor type: plate, mesh, leather, cloth instead of individual pieces

It seems to be weapons - clothing - tools, and within these genres per rarity. But just noticing this from the screenshot, haven’t really paid attention to this. Feel free to experiment and let us know if something faulty is going on here.

I’ve been wondering how it works too… What I noticed yesterday is that sorting by type seems to group together items from the same group or set, for example I crafted a bunch of Bolein plate armor (helmets, body, pants, gloves) and when I sort by type those are all grouped together in my inventory. I agree though I expected type to sort all gloves together, all pants together, etc. Maybe the current option could be renamed to something like “Sort by Set” and a new “Sort by Type” option could be added to actually sort by type? Since I do like being able to have sets grouped together, but also would like to be able to sort by actual type to see all my gloves etc. together.

Edit to add screenshot, I have multiple pieces of armor from 3 sets in my inventory currently and they’re grouped together when sorted by Type. Beyond that though I don’t know what logic it’s using to sort ones that aren’t part of a set, beyond separating weapons and armor is seems a bit random cause I have Plate gloves in the upper left, together with cloth and leather armor, but then Plate armor and pants at the bottom

Within armor itself, I suspect it’s just sorted by latest obtained (as you can see by the yellow diamonds marking the new ones).

@DarthOrmus Did you perhaps crafted the set at the same time hence it’s grouped together?

Based off the helms in my inventory, I can eliminate 1) sorting based on material (plates boxed in yellow are not grouped together), 2) sorting based on rarity, two grey ones are not grouped together.

If this is the intended behavior of the sorting function, I’ll like if the sorting can account for armor subcategories like body armor/ helmets/gloves etc which makes more sense. Currently it just looks.. not sorted?

EDIT: Also, when switching out armor/weapons etc, I do not understand how the game determines where the switched out armor is placed in the inventory. The expectation is that the unequipped armor would replace the spot of the one i was replacing it with from my inventory, but that is not the case. I tend to try the armor as I pick them up but always scramble to figure out what I was wearing before that

Hmm the armor I have is collected from different times, and when crafting it wasn’t necessarily consecutive like I crafted some pieces from different sets.

I checked again now with gear I pulled out at random times and it seems to be grouped based on the sets, like the Bane helm and gloves are together, Ashen Knight gloves/pants/helms are together, Bolein body and pants together, and Eversol bodies are together. I also crafted a new Bolein pants to see (right image) and it didn’t go to the end of the list but got grouped with the other Bolein gear.

So it seems to me that if you have multiple pieces from the same “set” they get grouped together, but outside of that it does seem completely random, if that makes sense. Beyond putting items of the same set together I don’t see any pattern to where the rest get placed. Like in my screenshot, all the sets grouped together are plate, but between the Bane set and the Ashen Knight set there are randomly Leather and Cloth pants…

I don’t mind that it groups the sets together but for sure it would be great if there was some logic beyond that, like sure put the items of the same set together but also put all the plate sets together, all the leather sets together, etc.

It would also be great to have a separate option to properly sort by type, like if I want to check all my gloves at once to see which enchantments I want to grab, there isn’t really a way to do that atm…

There’s also an issue when selling items where they shift around, I think I’ve seen posts reporting that too. Like if I sell one piece of gear, they stay sorted into sets but within the sets they get all jumbled up, which is probably similar to what you mentioned with taking them out of inventory?
