I got to River twins early, almost killed it, failed, moved on to exploring, killed Darak, went back to Twins but forgot where to go and went the long way. When I crossed the bridge going from the Boss to the save, on the other side I saw a pickup, walking to that pickup completely locked all movement and there was no “Press E to pickup” dialog box up top. Quitting to menu fixed it. After I took the save before the boss that pickup turned out to be 5 coin and worked just fine.
My guess is that game didn’t expect me to come to the from the long way and unloaded some properties of that pickup.
