This is an issue with many modern d-likes, where once you reach 100, excess XP does nothing. This wasnt a “big issue” back in the day as many people quit the game before reaching 100. and many would also consider reaching 100 as “completing the game”.
nowadays reaching max level is almost part of the end game experience. in diablo 3 they rewarded players with infinite paragon levels which to me is the wrong solution as it just made infinite powercreep.
as everyone knows NRFTW is still in EA and theres much more to be released “later”. but i think its a good time to address this end game issue now as “why not?”. this issue will inevitably happen when the game goes live anyway. so why not address it now?
since we’re currently capped at 30. why not make it so that players that are at max level have a new “xp” bar. segmented to 4 bars.
an npc will be available somewhere to trade 1 bar for loot or even perhaps trade in for specific items.
the reason why its at 4 bars is to allow players a reasonably long amount of time “fucking around” before needing to return to town. they would be incentivized to head back too as at 4 bars any further “xp” is just lost.
personally i’ve got no motivation to continue playing in EA once i hit max level and grinding for specific gear seems too RNG for my tastes. but i guess more loot/rewards like this could entice me back.
