It would be good to know which specific weapon you are refering to. E.g. look it up on the 'net and paste it here. If it is the corpse smeared blade, that is a bit special and covered in the patchnotes:

As @Chemile0n pointed out, these are not really legendaries. A full playthrough to a pretty maxed out build can be done in about two weeks, in that time quite a few golden items have dropped. Considering that, NRFTW has a pretty awesome playerfriendly QoL. If you are looking for a true gamechanger, max out your build. That is really changing the game 
It is awesome that this is handled this way. Consider the other extreme: A WoW legendary like Thunderfury took 6 months reallife for base drops and another 3 month farming and grinding. It was gamechanging, then nerfed because it was too gamechanging and then outdamaged by items from the following season.
