Proposal to please both parties on the housing debate (when you should be able to buy a house)

Hi all,

I’ve seen a lot of debate in the past few days about the housing and when you should be able to buy a house.

Overall, I’ve seen people either saying they like the change because they have more storage and I’ve seen people saying they dislike it because it doesn’t make much sense storywise. I have a proposal to appeal to both parties:

Let’s say, at the very beginning, you’re only allowed to own a house from the slums under Sacrament. Only after doing the quest, you’d be allowed to own the other houses within Sacrament itself. It makes sense: The houses in the slums would be much cheaper, so good for early game. It allows you to have a small place to stash your loot.

Storywise, killing Warrick was just a thing you had to do to get to Sacrament. The citizens and guards of Sacrament still dislike you as you didn’t come when they needed you the most. Sure, you’d be allowed to own a house by Ellsworth, but all of the citizens and guards would heavily disagree. So, living in the slums would be an option as the guards and citizens wouldn’t care if you lived down there. After completing the quest, you’ll earn the respect and trust from the guards. By rebuilding Sacrament, you’ll earn respect and trust from the citizens. Both of those would allow you to become a citizen of Sacrament yourself and allow you to buy bigger houses within the city itself.

Thoughts?

I honestly think the simpler solution is to just let us put extra storage chests in the starter Rookery quarters.
Solves the inventory management issue in the same way without doing anything to the progression like letting you buy a house early does.

That would be an easier solution yeah. They could perhaps add an extra room like in the manor with more chests

Someone else suggested a cheap house from the slums could be available after you beat Warrick.

I think the problem is not housing itself, but storage. My suggestion would be

  • Put community storage in the blacksmith rather than in the lodge. Fillmore trust you since you saved him, it makes sense he let you use his chest. It’s in a more “public” area, so it makes sense the chest is a community chest than can be accessed by other people.
  • The chest still unlocks after Selene’s arrival, at the same time of Fillmore’s appearance in the smith.
  • Expand the chest a bit, add 5 more slots. even though the current capacity is fine for me.
  • Housing still unlocks after Winnick’s mission.

Agreed, it is a storage issue.

I like the suggestions, I’ll only add to those with an option to have different tabs for the community chest. So you can filter through stuff better.
