A friend and I have been playing this game a lot. I came back specifically after the breach update to play again, despite knowing I’d have to reset from the start. My friend sunk a few hours into it too. I streamed a good chunk of hours on the breach update and have been enjoying it.
I went back to play today (5/4/2025) and my post breach update character is gone, so is my friends. I read in the bottom right about the legacy stuff but I haven’t seen a straight answer from the hotfix patch notes.
Do I really have to start over a third time?
I recognize that I can play the old saves in a ‘legacy build’ but it is my understanding that those saves are not going to be updated with any future stuff. Am I misunderstanding here?
EDIT:
So I downloaded/used the crucible beta option to see if my character was in the legacy build.
They’re not. My character is just straight gone.
EDIT 2 IMPORTANT:
I did some more digging around and tried to find any solution I could find for this. I came across this:
All the characters have disappeared since the update - Wicked Bug Reporting - No Rest For The Wicked
post from a year ago but the solution outlined made me think that the solution was essentially moving an old save up to the new update. I followed the instructions and came to a file that had many numbered folders, with one labelled legacy.
I understood that these folders are saves from old builds of the game with 22555 being the current build. Notably. 22555 had nothing in it but an “Account Id” file (this is my steam identifier) whereas the other folders had files for
“Character”
“Realm”
I identified this as the data for my old characters. So, I copied the info from the previous build of the game and pasted it in to the new build folder.
This. Worked. My character has been restored right where I left them.
I have a problem though: I now have two realm files. I reasoned that this was a holdover from the file before and deleted the old one, using the file I copied over from the previous build as my new one.
But that file keeps getting re-created whenever I play the game.
I decided to use the newly created file and deleted the copy of my old realm from the 22555 folder. But, when I play the game: THAT file is recreated as well.
As a recap: The realm file for the previous build was pasted over into our current build: 22555. Another Realm file keeps being generated whenever I play the game. So, now I have 2 realm files that are constantly being re-created, even if I delete them.
So far, this does not seem to affect the game (I have not tested this extensively) but I am concerned that the game is going to have issues with 2 realm files when there is only 1 realm in my game.
