Perspective on difficulty

Hi,

I am a new player to No Resr For The Wicked, who picked up the game after @Raxxanterax video on it and played it blind for now about 24 hours.

I like ARPGs, Elden Ring, Fable, Metroidvania and so far really enjoyed NRFTW. Though there are a few things I think that can be improved and a rather strange observation I made..

First and foremost I like to suggest to put an explanation of “Focus” and “Runes” in the tutorial.
In there is one I might have totally missed it and was stumped that I couldn’t use my sorcery sticks for anything but boinking monsters on the head. When I figured that I could use runes via shoulder button + X/A/B/Y I figured they were just there for utility. So I started using them just at about level 14 for light and teleporting home.

I did not start to use them for combat until level 22 when trying to do the Crucible to reskill.

Which is the next issue, I didn’t figure that my character was really, really badly skilled until around level 22. That is all attributes at at least 14, some 16 and my main weapon one at level 23.
Like I knew it was a bit bad around level 8, got my butt whooped in Crucible, and figured I come back when overleveled to be able to reskill.

The campaign wasn’t exactly hard as I focused a lot on dailies and city building and didn’t realize I had “a nice challenge” at kinda veing vastly overleveled but under skilled.

Trying to do the Crucible abd learning it expected me to be at least moderatly competently leveled was brutal and had me almost quit as I couldn’t put as much as a a dent into the enemies.

I eventually got help from a great user from the discord, who basically adviced me how to get to Luminos (twice!) to be able to reskill. According to the commentary I appeared rather very good at taking on single enemies, but got roflstomped if there were more.
It was as well then and there were I learned how to use runes.

I find it somewhat utterly strange that I could have a good campaign experience but get destroyed there.
I would suggest to either outsource the respeccen so one doesnt have to see Luminos twice after tough fights, or scale the difficulty of the Crucible not by level but either just not or by Crucible level (maybe make subsequently finished Crucibles, so one can build up a challenge).

The moment I had my char releveld I manage to whoop the Crucible and fight the boss (who dunked me because I thought I had beat him after the first phase).

Then I proceeded in the campaign and basically 3-shot each phase of Darka at lvl 25

Oh and maybe make an option to destroy a rune to free a runeslot unstead of the weapon.
Right before trying the Crucible I accidentally shredded my favorite weapon..which didn’t help the issue of being wrongly skilled.
Well or make it even clearer the weapon will be a goner

Rune descriptions would be nice too.

Rune descriptions is a must and i’m 99% sure it will get added later on.
You can either destroy a weapon to get the rune or destroy the rune to free a slot in any non ‘legendary’ weapon. On controller, one is X and other is Y , don’t remember which is which.
Although i never had an issue figuring out how focus and runes work, i agree they should add more tutorials on how to use all that stuff so newer players have a bit easier time figuring things out.
