Magic Needs to be Reconsidered

I picked the game back up 2-3 days ago to play the crucible update, and I’m already putting it back down.

Magic in this game still feels so ill-considered, there’s no way any of the devs have play tested a magic build against the Echo Knight, and enjoyed it. Nor can they have given the one legendary staff naught but a passing thought.

I exalted all of my build’s max-level equipment, and the EK is still a painful slog. It’s just a night and day experience vs the melee builds I’ve watched fight the EK.

On Falling Sky, how is one of the two measly perks an effect when focus is FULL? So to benefit from that perk and not lose focus, I have to melee? If I wanted to melee I’d be using a melee weapon…

Further there needs to be an ability to replace runes, it’s so constricting to the point that you can’t have any fun playing around with a particular elemental build. Eg Falling Sky’s only ranged ice spell is a spread shot, why can’t I swap in a direct shot?

All that said it’s a love rant, I love the game we have so far. What’s frustrating to be offered a variety of play styles, but it really being just an illusion of choice at this point.

If they nerf the rune spam, as they should, adding cooldowns to rune use, everyone of these builds you see on youtube will go down the drain.

If you get a good echo buff the mage can melt the Echo Knight, i mean one time i forgot to refill on food and went in anyway, i got to him with so many elemental buffs that i melted the boss faster than any of my warriors did, although none of my chars are build to spam rune attacks.

Bro, it’s not that hard… connect the dots…

That just means you have enough focus regain on hit/use so that it always re-fills your focus. So every time you use the skill, it’s from a full focus meter.

So if you have 800-900 Focus, and you have +9 Focus on Use, 2% Focus on Hit, plus the possible other crucible Focus-gain buffs, or focus on kill, along with decent focus gain %, you’ll mostly be using the rune or skill at full focus.
