[Linked] ACCESSIBILITY for DISABLED GAMERS

What is an LLM?

The reason I can connect to Rodrigo is because my younger sister has a couple of the same traits

Yes, she plays other games, she really likes isometric games, and the fact is that only hardcore/not easy- games have interesting graphics, history, dyalogs… even in Zelda or Lego she can’t control the camera and the character at the same time… because the reflexes are slow…

So the question is how does this broaden accessibility to the point of being part of game development from its very foundation?

I know it’s not easy, but all the games are very difficult to her.
And she always came back to play. =)

we will get it right!!!

By LLMs I mean chat GPT and the like. Most of the time, when I see a well formatted and (at least at first glance) well thought out post online, I see all the emojis and emdashes and realize it is ai generated, lol.

Anyways, I hope both of your siblings get some accesability features in Wicked one day!!

Gradually, the game is showing more persistence in her memory, recognizing the locations in the village. And the map markers are helping too. Exploration has been a real highlight, the game’s concept is very cool, and the stories are captivating and helping with text interpretation, as the conversations suggest things to do.

  • The combat is incredible, the system is very fluid and beautiful, however in accessibility mode it would be interesting if, instead of pressing X and a sequence of buttons to access magic and perform defense, simply holding down X would automatically perform combos and powers, including indicating when to defend. And removing the attack freeze when we take damage.

Some games feature button sequences during fights. In a possible accessibility mode, during Boss fights could also follow a combo sequence system with slow motion, dealing great damage to the enemy, and slow-motion in moments for dodging.

  • We have a bug where every time we use the mouse and keyboard, the controls stop working and we have to close the game.

We made a drawing of the controller and we’re starting to map the buttons little by little. This has helped a lot. ^^ She’s becoming incredibly skilled at exploring every corner of the map… finding lots of chests.

  • Sometimes she accesses the map many times in a row to find the mission location… perhaps the fairy could even help her stay immersed in exploration for longer, with some hints at forks in the path given by the fairy… balancing exploration and GPS. However, this exploration mechanic in the game is very fun, even for her, we get lost for hours hahaha and fall many times….. =)

  • Regarding items, in accessibility mode there could be fewer drops of armor and attack items, but they could be of better quality at key points in the story.
  • The puzzles are super cool, she solved some on her own, others not. We’re still at the very beginning of the game.
  • She is plus 18+ but It would be nice to turn off the blood. It’s different how emotional she gets when she dies. I can’t wait to play online to protect her… =)

RIght now were nose to wall on the update but this is something that will be discussed.

BarbarickPink’s (my sister’s) list of ideas and improvements for the game:

It’s impossible to know which item is better.

The chest needs more tabs to store everything.

I feel very lost between marking the mission and actually arriving at the mission. i need a GPS =)

I can’t remember the places I’ve already been to or not because the map goes dark again.

I can’t unleash my powers, defend myself, and attack all at the same time… but I’m already level 11 and I found the armor as a gift from Randolf. ThankYou ^^

When I want to go to the blacksmith or the sentinel, I can never get there without help because I still get lost with the places and paths.

—–

She always says:
I know where to go but I’m lost.
And now what do I do? (I don’t know how to continue the story)

She always says:
ā€œI know where to go but I’m lost.ā€
And ā€œnow what do I do?ā€ (ā€œI don’t know how to continue the storyā€)

She’s doing well, but sometimes it’s heartbreaking; she can’t get anywhere… and she feels lost…She likes squirrels, chests, chopping trees, digging, mining, and when she faces giant enemies and defeats them, she feels super powerful. we LOVE THE GAME ….

The fairy will be a great help… that way she can mark a place/mission and the fairy creates a GPS… she likes the game The Ascent because it marks the path on the ground when she presses a button. But it’s not there all the time, only when she needs it.

Hm I understand a couple of these troubles.

  • Determinining which item is better can be hard, stick to blue (Magic) if you want to be save! Use Embers from your inventory to reroll enchantments that are not doing anything for you. Damage, and Damage Reduction enchantments are always a save bet.
  • Increased chest storage has been asked for!
  • this game will not guide your hand in finding your quest target very much. Most of the times you will have to find your way over to the exclamation mark yourself, would it help if I write up a small guide how to reach every quest mark?
  • The map going dark will not go away, i’m affraid this is something your sister will have to make due with. Do you know how well her memory retention is? Does she remember maps in Ori for example? I have no advise for this sadly. Would making use of the map markers help? You can place as many of them unlimited!
  • Good to hear Randolph has been good to you
  • hm, learning Sacrament could actually be a fun exercise! Could you let her run the main street a few times perhaps? Like say, from the Marketplace all the way up to the Rookery (sentinel)? You can also repair the elevator so you have a shortcut!

Btw I do not want to be patronizing, is your sister the one who also is writing part of your comments?

I can help with a small write-up how to trigger each quest as well! Let me know if that would help and I’ll gladly produce it.

Happy to hear from you Rodrigo!

Hi bro!! How are you? =D

Yes, some of the suggestions are hers!
before ā€œā€”ā€“ā€

Yes, and that’s a lot of fun, but she has a short memory, so she enters the map every 10 seconds, which is a pain. The game Ascent has a cool solution for this. It’s not a fairy, but a button that shows a small path on the ground for a few seconds and then disappears, restoring the spatial and exploration immersion.

That’s great, I’ll check the markings on the map, but you’re right, her memory is quite limited, but her long-term memory is better, so she learns every day…like we do in card RPGs, as you said, to make the map with buttons I’m thinking of printing the map in A2 size so we can have fun marking places and making notes.

She’s having a lot of fun!!! =D The cooperative mode will help a lot so she can follow me =) Will there be local split-screen? But she likes to play alone too… a fairy or a short path of roots leading to the objectives would make it easier for her, because I have to explain the path every time we change locations.

I greatly appreciate your attention and care.

I know we have limitations, not everything is possible, but we can continue researching possibilities, thinking about the ā€œgame industryā€ as a whole. Because almost no forum has reached this level of detail that we are here, remembering how a game works in memory, in dreams, in motor coordination.

All of this is technology too. My professor at university of neurocience is Miguel Nicolelis, he is the inventor of the neurochip. So we’re always thinking about solutions for how technology can support people’s health and entertainment. Technology is a dangerous thing; it can go in any direction, so generating accessibility, inclusion, health tools, even an accessible game, are part of creating robotic legs and arms that work directly through the brain and spine.

She really wants to get level 13 so she can uses the armor from Randolph.
But it’s cool without GPS too. We make a huge mess trying to find places.

Items of the same level have more or less the same strength and it’s a matter of preference, the thing I recommend the most as @Silas-Inservio-Pax has already said is to avoid cursed items (those of purple/red color), for the rest she can use what she likes gameplay-wise & aesthetically, the only thing you need to look at is the level of the gear in the area to the in the upper right corner of the item description screen and make sure the number is as high as possible, by upgrading the item or finding an item with a higher number.

If you describe her playing style to us we can help you better.

Does she prefer fast or slow weapons?

Does she use the Dodge &/or the Shields?

Does she use Runes (The skills that consume focus)? If so, what runes does she use?

In which statics is she putting the levels?

Can you take screenshots of her current build?

What is her playstyle / how does she deal with enemies?

The unexplored map is completely black while the already explored map is grey (the recently explored areas are colored).

This will never be possible, not even in future updates, because the developers have structured the combat this way.

From the map you can zoom in on the city and when you do so the vendor icons appear (I hope this is useful).

Since she opens the map repeatedly maybe a minimap could help (it’s definitely easier to implement than an automatic navigation system).

I have found a digital MAP
Isola Sacra v2, No Rest for the Wicked Map

But i need to print it at A3 size so she can plan her mission.
Do you know were i can find it?

This is very helpfull

I will include a map with buttons, a general map, and tips for choosing the item when printing.

i will ask her…. but she is Barbarick Pink - destruction and axes =D - she still hasn’t gotten the timing right for pressing the attack button, so she keeps pressing X rapidly.

Yes a MiniMap can Help with some direction on mission.

——-

She likes big ones, but as she press X many times i thing fast can be easy.

She try, but not at the best moment. she Keep attacking

It’s difficult for her. We went to Eleanor to extract/repair a rune, it was fun, but it’s hard for her to synchronize two buttons at the same time.

For now we are focusing on Strength and Life.
Level 12

Yes i can make a video =)

This is Barbarick Pink at CBLOL - We were invited to the Brazilian League of Legends Championship by the KABUM team.

Even just a screenshot of her current build would be enough to give a lot of advice, just show me where she put the statics, the equipped load, the weapon she uses.

Now she is at level 15
and have 6 point to expend that she save.

the minimap can help a lot.

we are training the map and creating storys with the ambient so she remenber better the places.

she is playing everyday =)
It’s going to be fun online, she loves it when she defeats the BIG BOSS, she celebrates a lot.

First of all I should have asked you if you have experience with this type of game before but since I didn’t ask you I’ll ask you now:

Have you ever played a souls like?

How much do you know about how the game works?

To what extent do you help your sister while she plays (do you give her advice or just observe)?

Since I didn’t ask you these questions before, I’ll assume you don’t know anything.

You said she had a hard time dodging the attacks with the dodge, If she wants to continue trying to use dodge, she should put points into ā€œEquip Loadā€ (the last stat under the focus), since at the moment your sister has heavy load and therefore her dodges are clumsy and slow, she should get to ā€œnormalā€ weight.

image

by putting levels in the image skill or using lighter armor (but lighter armors offer less resistance obviously).

If she wants to continue using that armor 22-26 points in ā€œEquip Loadā€ should be enough depending on the weapon she is using.

If she prefers not to use dodges (and therefore make a tank build) she can stay in heavy class, but she should use a medium or large shield instead of a small one

Fillmore sells these two shields when you upgrade his forge.

imageimage

The first is a large shield the second a medium shield and both scale with strength.

The difference between the medium and large shields is that with the large ones you can no longer walk and you hold them up while with the medium ones you can.

During your adventures you should have found gems like these:

If you go to Eleanor you can insert these gems into your Armor, Weapons and shields, to obtain positive effects.

Read carefully what the same gems if placed in a different gear has different effects.

There is another way to give similar bonuses to items: Enchantments

Enchantments are stronger than gems but are random, talk to Eleano to enchant items.

Be careful though, because once you enchant an item you can no longer disenchant it.

and as I told you before the process is random and therefore it could be a purple item (stronger but with negative effects) or a blue item.

While you can’t disenchant items, you can adjust individual effects with embers.

By rerolling them:

If you use them on a purple object as in the case shown, even the curse can be re-rolled, but be careful because the embers are quite rare and re-rolling to find what you are looking for can require several dozens of embers depending on your luck.

I’ll do everything as you said. Thanks, man!! She loved the game! But it’s her first Souls-like game. She used to play ARPG.

But this is a Souls-like game we’ve never played.

What a great game!!!

We’re still having a lot of fun with the map and learning to cook. ^^ She has difficulties with maps, as we all noticed.

But each week she develops more memory about the game and how to find places.

I play with her, observing, and when she asks for help, I’m there. She likes fighting big enemies =D but now she’s playing alone too. She’s more confident with plenty of health and strength; she says she likes exploring, walking here and there.

I noticed that the camera shake really does make you a little dizzy. It’s interesting as a visual effect, but it’s not ideal for accessibility or player safety. It really causes this swaying in our perception of space. I noticed this sensation since the boat level, but now I understand that the delay between the character’s movement and the camera generates this displacement of the maze, and with each attack or small movement, the swaying happens. It’s very cool… however, it would be great to be able to disable it and have the camera movement more fixed on the character, with adjustable zoom by the player…

That would be safer.

I wish everyone an excellent end of the year, lots of health, abundance, friends and family.
I appreciate the adventures this year.
