Idea for Realms

Hey folks,

Today I had an idea and wanted to share it with you. Before I begin, I just want to say that I’m having a lot of fun with No Rest for the Wicked and have played around 150 hours. It may have its flaws and issues, but I truly believe this game has the potential to become a masterpiece. Also, please forgive me if I make too many mistakes while writing — English isn’t my native language so ChatGPT helped me a little out.

Regarding my idea, it’s about the Realms. As far as I know, they are currently mostly used for farming. I’m not entirely happy with the way this mechanic works right now because it feels like there’s not much of a point in having multiple Realms — other than being able to run several shops at once or clear more plagues becouse of the timer.

Once multiplayer is implemented, Realms will become more interesting, since you might play Realm X with friends A, B, and C, and Realm Y with friends B, D, and E. That would make the Realm system more meaningful. Still, I feel like something is missing.

What if the Realms differed based on story decisions, seasons, and weather? For example, if you fail to defeat a boss the first time or don’t beat them within X hours, the world changes — with different monsters and different loot. There could be extreme differences: maybe one Realm gets flooded, another has earthquakes, or there’s a volcanic eruption.

Or what could also be interesting: a quest or puzzle that spans across different Realms. For example, a special gem x can only be found in the volcanic variant, and a special ore y only appears in the earthquake variant. It could also be triggered by a unique quest that only becomes available in a specific scenario.

What I’m trying to say is that it should be possible to collect various unique items across different Realms — for example, to craft skins, weapons, or armor.

That would make replaying the game much more interesting, and trading between players would be very exciting. People would check who has access to what kinds of Realm and loot, etc.

Unfortunately, I realize that this probably wouldn’t be easy to implement — but in my head, the idea sounded awesome. So let me know what you all are thinking about it.

Oh, and since this is my first post, I’m not really sure if this is the right place to share my idea — I hope it’s okay.

naw i dislike realm hopping, its annoying. I dont want loading screen simulator, why not give us the benefits of mutli realms in one realms for some cost ?

I do like the idea. Devs want more playtime and I bet they would like too. The problem, it isn’t cheap, it would be really expensive and more development would be necesary.

I think you are right. It may sound simple but i’m sure this would be hell of a work and the question is if this is worth…

I really love the idea, wish it could be a future implementation.
