Hold time to change item is too short (interferes with usage of items)

The time to hold to change items in the quick bar is currently way too short, to the point that during combat, when one wants to heal it is too easy to bring up the menu for changing items rather than triggering the heal itself.

For comparison, holding select to show the emotes takes at least 3 times longer (which is more sane).

I’m playing on controller, meaning I have to move my thumb from the joystick to the dpad to heal / use items.

I manged to get a quick recording of to show this.

In the video I’ve gone back to The Shallows for a bounty.

  1. I get punished because I overextended
  2. I pull back to recover
  3. Just as I get behind the trees in the foreground, I try to heal but instead the selection menu to change the healing item flashes for a split-second (blink and you’ll miss it)
  4. I get surprised as to why I didn’t heal because my focus is on the enemy and my health bar.
  5. I then have to heal again while the enemy is now in my face.

I recommend rebinding heal to d-pad down

As i do the same when it is on d-pad up because its a safe resting place for my thumb meaning my thumb automatically stays on d-pad up longer than it do on d-pad down. (It varies depending on what type of design/shape the button have)

Maybe its just me but anyways thought i would share the tip atleast :+1:

-Edit: I use an Xbox 360 controller

I can see that this could help, unfortunately it just shifts the problem rather than addressing it.

I have an 8bitdo Ultimate controller (Xbox style), since the distance between the stick and the up-dpad is the closest, it makes more sense for healing (less movement), for a Playstation style controller on the other hand, moving it do the down-dpad would definitely make more sense.

Regardless, thank you for the tip.

Yes i know closest makes more sense but, have you ever accidentally pressed d-pad up while you are using the stick?

I know some people glue on “no-slip thumb grips” to their sticks to not slip onto the nearby d-pad or lose overall balance and grip of the controller

However i still think we should be able to customize the hold/release timers and change whats a hold button and a press button.

So in a way i still agree and you have my Vote

I have experienced with other controllers (some that have rounded tops) but not with this one, it has both an indent and a pretty sharp edge

Yeah, being able to adjust the hold timer would definitely be a good way of addressing it, it could even be an accessibility option.
