Feedback on the Combat System

Hello! I really enjoy the concept and visual style of “No Rest for the Wicked.” The animations are amazing and the game looks like a very promising product. However, there are several critical issues that are detrimental to the gaming experience.

Targeting:

I have tried playing using both a keyboard and mouse and an Xbox gamepad. In both cases, it was difficult to understand what was happening.

Keyboard + Mouse: When clicking on an enemy, ranged attacks or attacks using runes fly randomly, not at the enemy. It’s unclear what logic guides the character to shoot in the opposite direction from the enemy. That is, you can try to perform a ranged attack by clicking directly on an enemy, but the attack goes somewhere else entirely. Overall, the attacks are very clunky. I experience similar difficulties when trying to use any weapon with a wide arc swing, while precision weapons, like dual wield daggers, just miss the enemy.

Gamepad: The situation is similar, with an additional issue with dodging. Dodging seems to trigger twice on its own but not in the direction you intended. It’s fast and looks cool but seems to hinder more than help in hitting the enemy.

Key Bindings:

In my opinion, the inability to remap keys as you see fit is another critical issue with the game. On the keyboard, using the middle mouse button to parry is monstrously uncomfortable, and on the gamepad, having to hold the right bumper to apply runes is far from intuitive.

Enchantments:

Powerful enchantments make the character’s movements less readable visually. Besides their visual brightness potentially disrupting the aesthetics you carefully crafted, they look cool in a vacuum but become a confusing flurry in combat, making it hard to see whether you’ve hit the enemy. They also just look odd during the action.

Overall, the game is amazing, but these issues need to be addressed to make playing and enjoying the game less challenging.
