Feedback from a souls vet after 25 hours and beating the game

I will start by saying I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing this game. I can see this game being a masterpiece on release. Congratulations to the developers and the team for creating such an awesome experience!

ambience and atmosphere: 10/10

Nothing to be said here. just beautiful.

combat system: 7/10

I did not enjoy the weapon requirements at all. I was stuck with the same weapon since level 9 all the way to max level when I finished the game. Just not able to experiment and use different weapons. Waiting for the class based approach. fingers crossed.

A LOOOOT of balancing needs to be done. Focus generation being the same 10 focus per hit on every single weapon, no matter how fast or slow they are - doesn’t make sense.

inventory navigation was quite annoying most of the times. Having the cursor be in the last location where you left it when reopening the inventory is a bad UX choice. I want to be able to quickly change weapons. I will make a separate post about this.

Actual fighting was great. I enjoyed that part a lot. There’s a real intent behind the combat and I appreciate that. it’s not mindless hack and slash. Very well done!

level design: 10/10

I was in awe several times during my play-through at how ingenious the level design is. And it’s not just “clever” - it’s playful, it’s teasing, and it’s scary when it needs to be. Easily my favourite thing about the game. Just incredible. There are some minor geometry related bugs but I’m sure those will be ironed out.

Story, voice acting, and presentation: 9/10

This is another very strong point of this game. The effort and care that goes behind it really shows. it’s very impactful. Dialogues are amazing. They elicit a wide variety of emotions.
If there’s 1 thing I would change - it would be to stop the repetitive voice lines from the merchants. When I’m in the crafting menu at the anvil near the blacksmith for example, he just never shuts up. keeps repeating the same lines over and over to no end. That should not happen.

Performance: 7/10
I have a 3060ti(mobile) with a 1440p monitor and I was getting at best 50 fps.
The load times when jumping whispers is also quite high.
I measured it - from clicking “launch” in steam to me being able to control my character - it took the game just under 3 minutes. That’s quite slow in my opinion.

Overall I would rate my experience so far a solid 8/10 and I cannot wait to see the progress!
