Part of me wants all non-melee and out-of-combat focus generation gone, and bows/magic reverted to having no stamina-based ranged options. I don’t think enemies or levels offer interesting gameplay to a long-ranged playstyle, in the sense that enemies mostly can’t fight back.
But I can absolutely see where you’re coming from. Archmage is not a supported class fantasy, Gandalf and spellblade are.
I wonder if this gap is unbridgable, in the sense that enemy movesets designed around melee are incompatible with never being in melee; or if enemies should be given cover-seeking behaviour and ranged options, which would mean designing an entire second combat loop. I’m very skeptical of this, and would prefer to stick with melee done right.
