Hey every1,
from what i can see in my 140h in wicked, cgs in this game are intended to be somewhat of a hybrid between a onehander and a greatsword…if i am correct, then the balance is way off and need a revisit.
I will not go to deep into the animation frames interplay vs poise/poise dmg of mobs and other techstuff cuz i lack the information on that…so i stick to objective base imo that needs a rebalance.
For example: i upgraded 3 weapons to max, talwar, freiheit and sunbeam.
1)Talwar - 1hSword, 33dmg, 10 poise dmg, weight 28
2)freiheit - great sword, 53 dmg, 20 poise dmg, weight 42
3)Sunbeam - cgs, 33 dmg, 10 poise dmg, 43 weight
Now, again, im talking real basic stuff for now, and i feel that stuff doesnt follow the intented logic, as you can see (and yeah i know of the slight variation in min/max dmg and weight numbers of the same item instance)
Sunbeam - a curved great sword, with same base output and poise dmg, bit more reach, MUCH slower moveset then a onehander and same weight as a greatsword with less reach is a nogo brothers. (1hAxes have the same problem btw)
Instead make general cgs base 43-45 dmg, 15 poise dmg, 35 weight and a slight decrease in attackframes (more attack speed).
I haven’t really used any curved greatswords, perhaps they have really strong runes?
All base runes are pretty much the same in terms of raw dps…and no, cgs are just underperforming purely on their base…i think devs just forgot to update them, like, a cgs with the same dmg as a 1hander is crazy…
The CGS weapon moveset is terrible on regular enemies because it has the poise damage of a dagger with the animation speed of a greatsword. Your regular attack isn’t going to interrupt the majority of basic overworld enemies on hit, so they’re going to swing through and hit you. This forces you to back up and use the charge attack to deal with most of the enemies in the game, but your charge attack isn’t particularly great due to having minimal reach, just like your lights, and your Rune pool is the same as bigger 2H weapons which will all do more damage on the same Rune attacks due to having higher base.
Objectively they’re just bad, and even if you double their poise value they would just be “OK” due to their damage being in the 1H Katana range. But nobody cares about individual weapon movesets in a game where you can mash Rune attacks forever.
Right, thats why i started with basics first, pure numbers…more complicated stuff like animation frames can be avoided with basic number tweeking…let them do that first.
And also, we dont even have to talk complicated stuff…if i have a choise between a onehander a cgs and a great sword class, im not even cosindering a cgs an option right now cuz the base is just too weak.
If i want a 2hander ill go with a greatsword even if a particular one doest have a charged attack (faster animation or multihits in this case).
Or i go with classic swordnboard…keep in mind that i would get basically the same raw output and loadequip as a cgs, but with alot more attack speed and ability to block.
Cgs doesnt have a role right now.
Well the same can be said about plenty of weapon classes.
Spears (Especially the ones with a slow first light) are pointless, as their base damage is in the same range as other 1H weapons but they are significantly slower and their extra range can’t be leveraged as a meaningful advantage when they don’t have enough poise damage to stagger overworld trash on hit, so everything just slides through your stabs and hits you from a distance regardless. They would be more interesting if they were low overall DPS (Which they are) but could stagger basic trash enemies from a distance as they would then have a control element to them.
1H Daggers and Rapiers have very little value because they have lower base damage than other 1H weapons but can’t leverage their range and speed to achieve anything meaningful because they don’t stagger trash on hit, just like spears. Their regular attack DPS is inferior to weapons like the Talwar.
Reapers have all the same issues as a CGS just with a slightly longer and faster moveset so they aren’t quite as bad but are still questionable.
Several other 2H weapon classes have wildly different movesets between individual weapons in their class so it’s harder to discuss the class as a whole, but you’re just going to press Frost Throw anyway so we’d have to fix the infinite focus before it becomes a real topic.
Yeah its a mess but we gotta start somewhere, weapon balance is the heart of this kind of games…and i see ppl bit*** about transmogs and other useless sh***. Mindblowing.
