Cosmetics Wardrobe

Hi devs, returning player here. Back when I bought the game during the launch of EA, the game had great potential but was very rough around the edges. After almost a year of not playing the game, I recently decided to give the game a second chance after hearing that there has been major improvements.

I am glad to see that most of the issues the game had at EA launch has been fixed, and I’m really having a lot of fun now.

Would just like to suggest a simple feature which is a cosmetic wardrobe. Similar to Diablo 4 where any armour/weapons you unlock, their appearance is unlocked within the wardrobe, and players can equip them over their existing armour/weapons. I think it is important for our characters to look cool while being powerful at the same time.

Edit:

Add a cosmetic wardrobe similar to Diablo 4 that lets you equip your armour/weapons appearance that you have unlocked. But turn off cosmetics during PvP(i.e. when you are hostile to another player)

Thomas said their concern is with PvP where people could transmog into armor that makes them look weaker than they are (eg cloak instead of plate armor)

Suggestion: when people are hostile, transmogs are turned off.

I think if you like it, you can go get it and upgrade it, which is acceptable for this game

I was not aware that there is PvP. If that is the case then sure Cosmetics should be turned off for PvP. But for singleplayer I dont think cosmetics would affect the game negatively in any way.

The issue is sometimes you get e piece of gear you like the look of but its a purple gear that has a really bad negative debuff(like drain HP during combat, or disable block for shields).

Then you’re shit outta luck beacause negative debuffs like that for purple gear essentially makes those types of gear really bad and not worth upgrading.

Yeah, most of the time I don’t like what I use, I would really appreciate if I could put a skin on any wear and create a nice visual gear

In terms of PvP, one could set it up so that when you enter the PvP areas, your armor is automatically restored to its original state, thus “hiding” the skins. Or the appearance could be toggled on and off optionally via a checkbox, allowing the opposing player to generally control whether skins are displayed or not.

Yup agreed. Many other games have done this same feature where cosmetics get turned off when in PvP. Im sure No rest for the wicked can also do the same.

It would be better to have a spell like “disguise yourself” and a counter spell like “dissolving illusions”. It would also become a gameplay mechanic!

I think that would be
very different from cosmetic/transmogs. Transmog/cosmetics can allow players to apply a cosmetic change to each piece of gear(helmet, chest, gloves, legs, main hand, off hand) individually.

This spell mechanic you mentioned seems more like it would be like a more round about method to a simple transmog system. Not to mention, everytime another player would cast the remove disguise spell, you would have to go through the pain of re-casting the disguise spell again just so you can look cool.

I think a more traditional transmog system would be better. But this spell mechanic could be cool as a stand alone mechanic for PvP, but instead you could disguise yourself as a world prop(Rock, tree, etc.) like in Dark Souls/Elden Ring.

There may be an effigy item where you can store your outfit or items you’ve obtained or even mobs you’ve killed: when you cast the spell you can choose from that list.

To hell with PvP. The vast majority of RPG players do not want to PvP. Look at the breakdowns for any MMO or even Diablo. PvP is a gimmick, and all it brings is pain because players complain a lot more fircely about PvP balance than PvE because AI can be played around as it’s scripted, whereas player advantages are critical to the experience.

Just make transmog limited to armor category or disable transmog in PvP.

But it is pretty standard and dare I say the true endgame of any RPG player to nail down their fashion.

Transmog is one of the top 3 elements in any RPG for me, and its absence severely impacts my enjoyment of a game.

I don’t like to go around walking like a patchwork clown with mismatched armor.

And it’s even more important because the male characters has such hideous stick/straw legs and nonexistent calves that I need to use wide pants or robes to cover them up, because tight fitting pants look absolutely dumb on male characters.

Try the druid pants and see how hideous the little stick legs look compared to the upper body.

I think the solution is to make cosmetic changes only visible to the player themselves.
Other players would only be able to see your outfit when they inspect you

I’m sorry, my friend, I love PvP and I need to know what kind of opponent I’m facing. Maybe a pure PvE player thinks a cosmetic change is just that, cosmetic, but in PvP, it matters. Depending on the enemy, my strategy, how I use my resources, and the risks I decide to take all change. Rushing in against what looks like a warrior, only to find out it’s actually an ice mage, can determine the fight. It’s like seeing a ‘wolf’ on the field and finding out the hard way it’s EK
