Cold and Frost weapons, the best and the worst

Frost buildup is a lot of fun. Especially if you build up all of the enchantments to make it better and more effective. But for some reason once an enemy is frozen the weapon that builds up the frost does not take advantage of this. It hits like a normal attack. I have to switch to another weapon to break opponents or to seriously damage the enemy out of the frost case. This seems to be a bug. If it isn’t a bug perhaps an unintended effect? I’ve found that I have to use a bow in these instances because I can knock them out of their ice case and break them if they are low enough. But if I enchant my main weapon the bow becomes enchanted too and loses its ability to break enemies. This doesn’t play well or fun. If I have a giant club, regardless of whether it can build up ice, it should be able to break apart the enemy afterwards without switching to another weapon that doesn’t have an enchantment.

Personally, I run around with the Hoar Frost Sickle.
*Ice Dart (freeze) into a dash attack that shatters them.

The HFS isn’t enchanted with the ice element so the attack allows for the shatter.

I’m not sure if it’s better or worse that a weapon imbued with ice cannot shatter a frozen enemy.. but I doubt it’s a bug.

*The devs are likely trying to justify and get use out of the 3x weapon slots.

Perhaps thats the case, but your tactic only proves my point that the weapon enchantments need work.

Perhaps?

We will have to see what changes with the QoL features and new class update coming in Patch 1 later this year.

I made this build https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNAt_p5YxSM&t=3s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFyeLKuT-ug just because the current issue you’ve mentioned up there. But then realised that froze mechs (and fire mage mechs) are already broken comparing with lightning and even plauge damage so I stopped playing around them (it’s just me who doesn’t prefer giga builds), eighter lightning needs buff or all other 3 elements needs to be balanced to level of lightning and physical damage as well in fact imho. Anyway since you said that you were using bow to “shatter” enemies, this build might be interesting for you. So it doesnt have that giga damage but if you wanna keep using 1 weapon other than wand for freeze and shatter mech I think this is the best way at least until patch 1 cuz I’m pretty sure that they’re gonna balance the hell out of damages and enchantments in patch 1. Have a good one!

Hey fair enough. Thanks for the suggestions. Well see what they have in store with the next update/patch

You can extract the runes from endless winter staff and put them on another staff that doesnt have an element embued. It’s critical the staff doesn’t have cold, fire, plague or lightning on it.

Problem solved.

I suggest a staff with a charge attack for better damage (hold down attack button). I’m not doing this as I prefer to switch to the 2-handed sword, Icebreaker, and 1-shot stuff. I agree it’s clunky and a bit lame…

I know all of this. But using a staff isnt as effective as bonking their head with a morning star for example. And when a large ball presumably weighing 30 or more pounds smashes into ice youd think it would break. But no! It has ice enchantment! I just dont see the difference between rune freezing a giy and slowly freezing a guy. It makes the frozen infusing so…annoying.

Yeah I agree. If you want to bonk, use an ice rune on the morning star that insta freezes them. Then you don’t have to switch weapons. I agree, it’s not ideal, but less clunky than switching weapons. Ice Ram, for example, is used for 2handed swords.

Imagine if your weapon only applied oil. Then you had to switch to a weapon to apply the fire. That’s how dumb it is.
