probably yes. These spikes were definitely not visible there. This means there is a bug with their display.
I caught them during the animation, but I do agree this animation should last longer or have more noticable colors / sounds. First time it happened to me was frustrating as well, I was puzzled for several minutes.
All the time I played, I never saw these spikes.
