This is a weight thing for me. A lot of Staffs are 25 weight whereas nearly all Bows are 30. A Bow is basically a stick with a string attached. A Staff is basically a stick with a head on it. They should at least weigh the same and I think Bows should be lighter.
I’m currently struggling to stay in the “Fast” section of the weight class, which means that at present, the only way I can equip a Bow and stay there, is to drop most of my armor. Fundamentally, for a Fast build, we can’t currently use any weapons over 10 without wasting gem slots on all weight reduction, and/or doing the somewhat tedious grind, roll and re-roll mechanic on charms.
As a lightweight Fast build, we already suffer the vulnerability of weak armor, so it would be nice to use gems and charms for buffs, rather than have to use them to stay in the too difficult to achieve lightweight class.
I agree. There is a logical error in the weight setting. At the very least, wearing a set of cloth armor, a one-handed sword as the main weapon, and a light shield as the secondary weapon should result in a light overall weight. A set of leather armor, a one-handed sword, and a light shield should be classified as medium weight. A set of chain mail, a one-handed sword, and a light shield can be set as heavy weight. If you want to wear a set of plate armor, you will need to increase your weight attribute points to maintain a non-overweight status. Additionally, adjustments need to be made to the defense values. In the current version, cloth armor has no advantage in terms of defense values. I hope it can return to the previous setting where cloth armor had low physical defense but high elemental defense. Plate armor has high physical defense but low elemental defense. I prefer this setting.
Good point, but the thing with attribute points is they’re complex too. I’ve done most of my hours so far, on my first build where I naturally put points into health, focus and stamina, let alone equip load. Only to discover that I didn’t have enough points to use some of the later game weapons, which wouldn’t matter so much if they made the re-spec a simple thing. I got so tired of failing the Crucible, that I’ve started 2 new characters on another realm, just to test full Dex and Faith builds. So now, I’m naturally cautious as to where I put my precious attribute points. I maintain that the Light weight class is just made too tricky to stay in without a disproportionate effort. As we don’t know how soon till it all changes, and it’s likely to be quite a different game in these respects, can’t they just give us a bit more leeway in the weight, or make re-spec easy till the change comes?
It’s actually quite fascinating that even within the realms of fantasy, whether films or games, we mostly have an idea of what’s fair or believable and what’s not eh? There’s a whole afternoon of philosophy there.
Yes i also get the same thought process on weight in general and i know its tedious and frustrating to have to make sacrifices just to stay in Fast or Normal weight class..
How much i hate when i have to think about weight classes in games only that tells me how important the weight system actually is when it comes to the players decision making.. Imagine sacrificing DMG only to stay in the Fast Weight class that in itself tells us how much more you Value WEIGHT over DMG/all else.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to use Weight reductions for Builds in Fast or Normal Weight class even if the Armor is weaker?
When using Fast builds you essentially already know you get one shot, or almost one shot, if you get hit, so you focus more on Speed and Reflexes aswell as Evasive movement rather than Strengthening your Armor?
When you make a Heavy build you know indirectly that you increase your chance to survive a very specific hit so you can focus more on strengthening your attacks.
I’m not saying that your ideal Fast Build doesn’t make sense tho.
This will probably all be moot information, come the full release, but, in case they still have parameters around weight, I still think it’s only fair that if you offer a light weight set up, we should be able to achieve that with basic equipment.
I’ve just spent far too long, searching all my gear collections in 2 realms, to get 4 max weight loss charms for armors, plus essences to use them. Then had to apply the 30% reduction gem to a decent bow, to finally get a fast build bow user. This is simply to see what it’s like.
As my newer character is lvl 15, I get 3 charms per item so 1 is wasted on weight reduction, leaving 2 for buffs. Turns out it’s not as effective as I’d hoped against bounties and bosses, coz the bow ties you into animations that prevent quick dodge when crucial, and as you said, we only get 1 or 2 hits before death so…
So, I’ve now learned a simple thing but the time I had to put in to just do that, was frustrating and, after all, gaming should be fun, not frustration.
