59.8 hours in, I'm in love, but I also hate it... sorta

Sorry for the length, as I have to explain my thought process. If not, nothing I say makes any sense, so again, sorry for the length! :disappointed_face:

**
Before I begin**, let me just lay the groundwork for my personality here as it’s important to this post. I am the person who plays games no matter how bad it’s going. I could be teleporting off the map, losing loot randomly, dying everywhere, and I’m still going to play without complaining. I will praise a game’s good points and acknowledge the bad but not let that keep me from playing the game. Everything I say down here is love and understanding for everything the team has done. BUT to get me to post a feedback? This is RARE.

Let’s start with Cons, then end on a good note with Pros.

Cons:

  • Lord have mercy why can these dudes hit me from 50 feet away, through WALLS?

Example: I was standing in a room that has one in and out door. It’s medium size rectangle and it’s connected to another room that’s a square. I am standing at the end, AWAY from the door and what I thought was out of the aggro zone for a big enemy (the taller, longer, more powerful enemies) who was in the adjacent room. I’m watching as he winds up an attach, and his giant swords come through the wall, FROM THE OTHER ROOM, and hit me. No where near me, just through the wall. It left me flabbergasted. I had it happen before but nothing this bad and blatant. It has happened everywhere, so I can’t give you an exact point of where to look. My friend’s have had this issue and has resulted in them quitting the game.

From what I can tell, from testing and running, is that it is all hand held attacks. By that I mean it’s swords, hammers, spears, etc that are still in the hands of the enemy OR it’s the enemy’s body itself (like the dudes who have the long tails). So it seems to only happen if it’s an attack like that. No arrows or spells, but physical attacks from through the wall if the weapon or body part is long enough. Also it’s only the enemies, not friendlies who can do this.

  • Co-op is great but my friends lag so badly it causes unnecessary hits and even deaths.

This is just a technical thing and it makes playing co-op difficult. I am the closest to whatever houses the Americas server and thus have the lowest ping which is normally, on a good day, 60-70ms. My friends, when playing co-op, go over 150 sometimes. One person ended up at 200ms. That was a bad day for everyone. Is this something that is being looked into? More servers in general but definitely more than whatever we have in the Americas.

  • Hit boxes, who needs them? Might as well make mine the size of an elephant at this rate. Also make the enemy’s smaller, cause I like to stand nose to nose with the dude that is killing me.

I got shanked by one of the big dudes yesterday and the pointy end of the weapon was, kind you not, at least 5 characters away (lay down the cerim on their back and just put them feet to head (honestly no idea how to just universalize the measurements here :laughing: )). I was standing still (my brain gets overloaded sometimes and I just forget I’m trying to survive in game :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: ) and I watched as a big dude stabbed the area in front of him and my character gets hit. The hit boxes weren’t noticeable when I first started, but now that I have played the game it has become apparent that my hit box is HUGE. This again, happens everywhere. I even encountered some of the enemies having a hit box that requires me to be in their face to hit them (with a staff mind you).

  • (nit picky issue) Please update item descriptions with more information.

Okay so this is kinda silly and this MAY just be a me thing. I want more information on what items stats do. Normally I just wing it and go, but as time goes on and I want to do a ā€œbuildā€, I realize I’m just guessing at what things do. What does it mean when it says ā€œenchantment has % chance to do more damage when it is the only elemental gemā€? Is this accounting for every piece of armor/weapons you are using? I also have no idea how I’m setting of a lightning chain when my skill doesn’t say it does that but it just happened. The biggest one, why can’t I figure out what runes are one handed or two handed before buying them?

  • I need names for the whispers on the map please. I can’t remember where they are (as in a specific whisper in an area) even after looking at where it is on the map.

I have a really hard time remember where all the whispers are and the names connected. I keep having to teleport from whisper to whisper to get to the right one for bounties. Help. I’m stuck in the loop of trying to remember where I need to go. So just a name of the whisper that it has in the menus, on the map (honestly can just show up if you zoom in close).

  • Technical issue maybe? Crucible - There is an echo that says ā€œlets you come back with half health after receiving fatal blowā€ and it doesn’t do that.

I’ve had it several times now and it has never done its job. Am I missing something? I have done it on both solo and co-op runs. Never brings me back after receiving that fatal blow. It makes me sad. Not upset, just sad.

  • (nit picky) I feel like I’m not reading many patch notes or even know what’s going on with the game.

I wish I could read patch notes with this game more. To not see anything for a while about what is being fixed, or added, or even taken out, makes me feel like the team isn’t actually paying attention to the people who don’t go on the forums and discord. I normally get my news from the patches. I don’t care if it’s something like ā€œIt’s Danos’ birthday so we put him in a silly hatā€ or ā€œall the cats in Sacra are now 3 times the average size due to a number issueā€ and that was the patch note. I just need some sort of outwards communication. Again this is probably silly, but it just makes the game feel like it’s at an upward momentum with the patches being posted regularly or semi regularly.

PROS

  • This game is gorgeous, in ALL aspects. (in my opinion)

It really has amazing visuals. I honestly would bring more friends in to play this game but I know some of the issues above are deal breakers. The scenery is fantastic and just feels immersive. I also fall off everything and continues to keep me in the spot of clumsy in the friend group. I am in awe of something new every time I open the game. I can see all the love that was put in and the continued love that is currently being worked in.

  • Fashion first? Always

I have carried over my logic from any of the other games I have played of ā€œFashion firstā€. I may not have a crazy build, but you won’t catch me having a bad clothes day. I want more please. All of it. (As a side note) I want more helmets that are cool but also goofy. I need more goofy helmets.

  • Collective box sharing and resource pull- Thank you Speaker for this team and make sure their pillows are cold tonight.

I don’t like having to keep running back and forth to get supplies. It’s annoying. Only cause I spend all my time outside of my house and inside the market square. Thank you for making this something I don’t have to do so I can spend more time crafting everything I need/want. Check out the ten million chests I’ve made (jk but almost).

  • Enemy variety -GORGEOUS

I am only a little way through the story ( i keep getting distracted by dailies and random resource farming and now I can pet the dog that’s here in Marin and oh let me go pick up those potatoes and….. you get it) but so far the enemy variety is lovely to see. I really don’t feel like I’m making it super easy by memorizing everything they do as I don’t see the same ones over and over again. If I do, they seem to vary up their attacks enough that it doesn’t register in my tiny brain.

  • Um a house? YES PLEASE. (A greenhouse, maybe? :hugs: )

I want a bigger house please. I got the manor, cause I saw it was available and just instantly went ā€œYes put me next to the stockadeā€. I wanted to get the one by the cemetery but the manor got to my heart first. I just want a bigger space to put all the random stuff I keep building from the ā€œothersā€ menu at the woodworking shop.

~~~~~~~~~
All and all, I love this game. It is beautiful and I am obsessed. I continue to play it even if everyone else has stopped playing. I honestly hope nothing but the best for this team. This game has so much potential and I really can’t wait to see where it goes. If it would stop rage baiting my friends I could always bring them back too.
Much love to the team and everyone here for playing. I’m really just along for the ride, but am happy I get to play this game, acne and all (cause you can get rid of acne).
Hey mburkh22, just gonna jump on this.
You can read patch-notes in Steam, in the Discord and here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aqgXgfh87rw-\_7J_KMkb_9wp12UNuaoHh5IYfjS2OWY/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.9z492o1tb8vx
Those are the usual places to read them. Are you not seeing those?
Silas
I do see them (also that link isn’t pulling anything up for me, just an error saying the page not found/file doesn’t exist). Just when I bought/started the game, there wasn’t anything posted until the 1 million copies post and then just yesterday the outage post. I can see that there were consistent posts almost everyday from Jan 31st backwards.
What I would want to see is a consistent posting (on Steam), like once a week or every other week, of the team going ā€œHey! This is what we worked on this week to fix and this is what we will be working on when it comes to problems that have been reported.ā€ Before this game I never went past the steam news page when it came to issues. Most people do the same thing. So just having a post out there (on Steam) every week shows people who maybe interested that the team is actively posting/working/reacting to feedback and bugs.
This is again, just me, speaking from a view point of someone who only used the steam news page as a way to know what the devs were up to.
