Thomas has confirmed (verbally) that shield runes are in the making, I’ve not seen any other news on that front. Would that fit what you seek? Or do you want integrally abilities tied to shields?

Yes that’s exactly what they have planned! We will have runes for shield, and be able to pick which one to put in our shields. I’m pretty exited about it!
