Hello @imanozx , welcome to the forum. If your realm is local (single player), there are indeed character backups that you can restore without any mods or tools. However, you must be comfortable with navigating your directories, renaming files and searching for text inside files. It is also very important that you have not played at all with that character since it died.
If you are fine with the above, and with the risk of something going wrong and losing that character forever, and of ruining the joy of hardcore, here are the steps to revive it:
-
find the game’s current build number. It is displayed in the top right corner in the main menu (e.g. 26973);
-
open your file manager and navigate to %APPDATA%/LocalLow/Moon Studios/NoRestForTheWicked/DataStore/26973/. Search the internet for %APPDATA% if you want more info on that;
-
you will see a bunch of files with long names. Some will have “Character” in the name, others will have “Realm” in the name. Use your favourite tool to search inside those files (e.g. Notepad’s CTRL+F). Don’t be intimidated by the contents of the files when you open them. It’s normal they look weird. In the files with “Character” search for your char name (“DedAgen” it seems) and in the files with “Realm” search for your realm’s name. The goal is to see which UUID (the long string in the middle) corresponds to your char and which to your realm;
-
once you know the UUID, you will notice that there are some files that end with .bak1, .bak2,.. .bak5. Replace the char and realm files that have no .bak extention with one of those that have. For example:
76561198282458519_Character_0078d3ca-8e42-4aee-8345-81514f939100.cerimal.bak5 → 76561198282458519_Character_0078d3ca-8e42-4aee-8345-81514f939100.cerimal
76561198282458519_Realm_e2ceef4b-15ce-4f6b-b184-592cc5054d4a.cerimal.bak5 → 76561198282458519_Realm_e2ceef4b-15ce-4f6b-b184-592cc5054d4a.cerimal
I recommend using the oldest “bak” file to be sure you are restoring one where the character is likely to be alive;
-
stop your internet connection to avoid steam cloud (this is important);
-
start the game and your char should potentially now be alive again;
-
play for a short time, then exit the game, start your internet connection and restart the game;
-
when you start the character, a popup will appear asking which version to use - keep clicking on “local” until it all goes away
-
