Been following the game for a while and finally decided to get it after the free weekend. One of the main things that convinced me to get it was the Bow combat. I saw that they decided to make Bows a main hand weapon and give the Archer playstyle/fantasy a real place in the game instead of a side show as an off hand weapon or tool like in other similar games and that really made me interested in the game. I love playing as an Archer in games, always try to make a build with a bow when I can, but sadly in a lot of souls games they are regulated to being lackluster utensils, but im happy to see that isn’t the case here. Bows feel punchy, agile and useful, the animations are great to watch, and with them being a main weapon I’m interested in figuring out what new builds can be made with this weapon class. Hoping you guys keep up the good work with Bows(adding great bows, different ,quivers and offhands , etc) from here to beyond 1.0 and keep Archers as a main hand playstyles along with the other main weapons.
P.S: I also know that there are maybe 1-2 bows some players consider to be OP. while I feel like that is majorly hyperbole(OP is thrown around way too much in gaming) I do encourage the devs to buff less popular/useful weapons and/or enemies before nerfing anything. and if nerfing is to happen, I feel creative nerfs will be more fun than just basic “less damage/etc” nerfs. for instance, if the range of a bow is a problem, maybe a critical distance mechanic(similar to monster hunter) could rectify this.
EA is EXACTLY the time to nerf things. They have a vision for the pace of play and encounters. They should nerf OR buff anything they need to in order to get closer to that vision across the board for each weapon/class type.
Not nerfing things just to avoid the word “nerf” is silly and will result in broken balance. Changing 10 things to fix 1 problem is not a solution. You change the one thing that is the issue.
Respectfully, Im not sure what you are getting at?
I never said EA wasn’t a place to nerf something, nor did I say that they shouldnt nerf anything. I simple believe that raising less useful weapons up and/or making enemies more competent in certain areas, would be more beneficial to the health of the game just simply going for a basic nerf this or that.
and further more when it came to nerfs, all I said is creative nerfs would be more fun/interesting than just basic nerfs.
”Changing 10 things to fix 1 problem is not a solution.” ……. what? if it fixes the problem then is that not literally a solution? especially if those other changes make the game better as a whole?
Bows are currently OP. They are the thing with overage. Many people equate being OP for the content with “having fun”. But personally I do not want that to be where fun is sourced.
The less-used weapons aren’t less used because they are bad, they are less used because people gravitate to and abuse the things that are over-strong.
The mission shouldn’t be to bring other weapons up to trivializing the content the same way Bows do atm. The mission should be to bring bows down to a more reasonable play challenge.
If the other weapons are not at that reasonable challenge point, and are overly difficulty, that is the only time when they should be buffed to bring them up. Not JUST because they aren’t where bows are at; which is OP.
I dont think Bows are currently OP at all, in my experience they haven’t trivialized the experience like you have said. more over in my co-op playthrough my other friends were able to keep up with my damage and even out damage me(especially the mage).I honestly think that it is way to early in the update to categeorize a whole weapon class as OP, hyperbole like this benefits no one. Especially since the main complaints are on a specific bow(Laquered Bow). labeling Bows as OP as a knee jerk reaction this recently to launch especially when things like magic has been and is very strong doesnt seem like the best idea IMO.
No Im aware. I just know that I’ve seen other builds using different weapons make comparable feats. even on that same channel I believe. I’ve seen other weapons do one shot( or close to one shot) the echo knight or other bosses. now whether one shotting or not should be possible is a different subject I think, but its completely false to say Bow is alone in it when its clear as day that other weapons(magic, gauntlets, etc) can do similar.
Have not played the game, but I am interested. Can someone tell me if bows have a line-of-sight friendly fire feature? So, you have to ensure that your teammate is not in the line of fire?
