Item comparison while shopping

If I’m missing a simple way to do this, please let me know. When I run to a vendor to sell gear, I can’t seem to do an item comparison in that moment. i have to exit or shuffle around menus to compare items, then go back around to selling things. I would love to just be in the sell menu and still be able to compare new items to what I have equipped. This is on gamepad so yes the items are on the sides and I can click, click, click to maneuver to them. I’d rather still be able to press LS down, get an idea of how it compares, and then sell or stash it instead of 8 clicks per item.
