I don't understand gems

So like most gems, they’re garbage pointless trash later on in the game. I don’t get this game, the benefits derived from buffs are always so miniscule, but the debuffs on corrupted items are insane.

Using a bleed gem and after hitting an enemy for 230 dmg, he ticks 2-3 damage. Which builds up, and I think the highest I’ve seen is low double digits.

Bleed ticks when an enemy is moving, if you have an enemy chasing you while you stack bleed on them the DMG is gonna ramp up.

The dmg is gonna be low on stationary targets or enemies that doesn’t move alot.

Does it say that anywhere in the game?

Ah yes. Of course, the place most players won’t ever look lol.

Couldn’t have a small description popup when moving mouse over it.

Lets pretend for a moment, that people don’t always play a game consistently.

And that they might come back to it 6 months later. Whenever everything has changed.

What is wrong with an item description as simple as: “Causes enemies to bleed the more they move around” or something similar.

Having to leave your inventory menu, to go and look up an item in a compendium, is not good design. Maybe have a shortcut so that players could long press a controller key like the triangle button, that would popup a screen with the compendiums’ description.

I also went back and played some more, and yeah bleed damage is garbage and useless.
Hitting the enemy with the governor’s sword 3 times and kiting the mob all around the screen, I think I saw a total of 46 dmg. When enemies have 1500-3000 hp, that IS useless.

I see, it ticks up and then gets replaced with another number, instead of being cumulative.
I’ll check again, maybe on regular mobs who don’t move around as much it’s not as useful

I checked the compendium as you suggested and I can’t find this information.

I just tried doing what you did in your video, on a weekly boss for an ichor.

I hit him over and over again but bleed never procced. In your video, you hit the boss once and bleed is procced. Are you using anything other than a bleed infusion on your weapon?

The Bleed info is located under Elemental Damage… no clue why bleed a status effect is considered elemental.

I have no Clue why you only considered adressing Bleed when Infection(Plague) also should be adressed to that statement

”Elemental Effects” and “Ailments” are often used interchangeably in some games. In games such as Elden Ring they are Strictly Categorized.

Plague I’ve seen games use as a poison equivalent which I would consider Elemental, besides that yeah fair cop wouldn’t disagree that it’s a status effect more than elemental.
