Food doesn't increase health to full

Food only provides health up to about 80%. You can see here I eat food and health has not changed.

  • have you checked if you have an entchantment on your gear which says: “Max health reduced by 20%” ?
  • at the settings you can also activate numbers for health and focus bar to get more information

Yes, it’s a red item.

Maybe the UI could be improved to help us understand what’s going on. Because this just looks like a bug. The food disappears and nothing happens. Maybe instead of empty, the top of the health bar could be purple or striped or a small chevron beneath the health bar could indicate max health.

I can see the benefit of doing it this way instead of just rescaling the health bar. But some indication of what’s going on would be good.
