We should be able to craft (upgrade equipment, inscribe, cook, upgrade the town, and fulfill challenges) from shared storage when in town.
Maybe I missed them, but there only appears to be one shared stash in the rookery. A few more chest locations would also be nice, like around the crafters and the whisper, to help with the downtime between exploration.
