Cannot disable HDR

I’m having serious issues with FPS drops when in certain areas/fighting certain enemies. Wanted to disable HDR to see if it’d help and the setting is enabled and greyed out, preventing me from disabling it.

Try disabling it in the windows settings.

I never have this one enabled, is there a different HDR setting in windows 10 I’m missing?

I don’t really know, but is HDR even enabled if the setting is turned off?

No, it is not. Usually games require that setting to be on in windows for the in-game HDR to even be toggled on.

I’m reasonably sure the wrong setting has no performance impact. I’m not seeing washed-out colours or extreme brightness in the screencaps, so I am guessing HDR is not being applied.

Still, here are some ideas:

  • Wicked saves graphical settings in the registry; try [Software\Moon Studios\NoRestForTheWicked] and see if there’s any HDR settings. Might also be worthwhile to delete the key and let the game regenerate it (consider a backup).
  • Try setting an incompatible launch flag to disable HDR. Might be dumb, but the idea is to trick the game with a setup that doesn’t support HDR so it disables the option for you. You can maybe try -force-d3d11, maybe with -force-feature-level-11-0.

Normally I’d have suggested setting a display mode that isn’t exclusive fullscreen since I thought Unity HDR only worked with that, but you’re already in borderless/windowed and the setting stays on. (On second thought, Wicked doesn’t even have exclusive fullscreen, so my knowledge is definitely outdated.)

I dont know if this will help but might aswell leave it here ^^

Go to: SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\NoRestForTheWicked\NoRestForTheWicked_Data

Open Boot.config with notepad but make sure you uncheck the box at the bottom so it doesnt always open with notepad.

Then change hdr-display-enabled=1 to hdr-display-enabled=0
Now just click “Save” or hit Ctrl + S and Close the Window

Just keep in mind that boot.config gets reset whenever a new patch comes out or whenever you Verify your Game Files

Ended up enabling HDR in windows setting > launching game > disabling HDR in game settings > disabling HDR in windows settings and now its still off in game settings.

I don’t think HDR was ever on while HDR was disabled in windows settings (like a few of you suggested). Especially now that I’ve seen it active for a bit while I was going through this process.

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions!
