Backstabbing doesn't work after rebinding controller inputs

This occurs on controller. This bug is reproduceable.

Steps to Reproduce:

  • Create a character / load one
  • rebind the attack input to “Y“ from “X“
  • sneak up to an enemy (facing away / unaware of the player)
  • wait for the skull to appear, indicating the option to backstab
  • press “Y“ (the rebound input) to initiate a backstab
  • nothing happens and the skull icon disappears and re-appears shortly after

My guess is that the backstab input is hardcoded to “X“ or the top button of a controller (Assuming Xbox controller configuration). For reference also, When I check the binding layout graphic, the attack button remains to be “X“ despite my changing it to “Y“ as well as the fact that the game itself recognises regular attacks and charge attacks from “Y“.

Small bug but prevents backstabbing entirely if you rebind controller inputs

I have also found out just now that “plunging attacks“ or “air attacks“ also do not work when the attack key is rebound, again specifically on controller. I imagine this is because of the same issue with the backstab. (I actually didn’t know there were air based attacks because of this, as I have played the game only with custom keybinds).

The first 4 steps to reproduce are exactly the same for this bug. Save the attack context.

  • no enemy required, simply jump or walk off an elevated height
  • while falling, press the rebound attack input. No action occurs at all when it should

if any video of this bug is needed, despite the similarities to the main bug, let me know.

I encountered the same problem.

My discovery is that backstab attack can work properly when attack is rebinded to “X” or “B” button, while it cannot work for attacking rebinded to “Y”.
