This Dark Leather Jerkin armor piece switches visual looks between the Dark Leather Jerkin and the Mudstalker’s Jerkin.
I was equiping all the leather armors I had laying around to check the looks, and eventually tried on this Dark Leather Jerkin and then noticed the issue.
Then went back to find the Mudstalker’s Jerkin since i remember that I seen that one earlier.
Strange thing is its like on a fixed rate of change, it always changes to the other one every time i take it off and then put it on again.
Even after leaving and rejoining the realm.
After rebooting the game the issue was gone.
So I don’t think a save file will help.
I can no longer reproduce the issue…
Both items are armour pieces that have palette-swapped high-level variants.
It is always a low-level item that is erroneously displayed as its higher-level counterpart, never the other way around.
Inventory icons are always correct for the item type; it’s the 3D model.
It’s been more common in multiplayer, but that’s likely because the lads and I keep inspecting each other and judging each other’s fashion, and because four pairs of eyes see more than one.
In multiplayer, one person might see an item correctly, while another might see it as the higher-level variant.
The bug affects both genders of player characters. (I initially assumed it was a gender-specific texture and made a female character to use the dark garment.)
The bug can occur with any 3D character view; I have seen it in the main menu once.
The issue is fixed by restarting the game, and affects individual items, not the entire type.
An affected item does not revert to the correct colour if unequipped and re-equipped.
I’ve not seen it on outfits that have a higher-levelled variant with a different mesh: One of my friends has worn his Wretched Archer Cap since the very start, and not once has it appeared as a Crestfallen Archer Cap. Though an anecdotal observation, this may betray an obvious underlying course to someone familiar with the data structure of items; maybe the texture property is not read correctly sometimes, defaults to some value in a list, and only items that share meshes are affected?
As the issue affects my friends as well, I don’t believe submitting log files and saves to be of help.
The bug occurred again, this time with the Reckless Tallbear Garb and only affecting the in-world model. I’m attaching a small avif file of repeatedly donning and doffing the armour. Observe how it does not follow the toggle behaviour documented by DexteR.
