First of all, thank you for the game. The free weekend was brilliant and two of us bought the game as the sole consequence of it.
I love messing around housing and moving things about, but the current system feels very hard to place things with.
I believe most of the problem comes with the fact that the character has their own bulkiness, intertia etc and fine tuning the placement is really hard. I also thought about controllers a lot and couldn’t find a single reason the idea wouldn’t work, so I am throwing it out here in the void.
The idea:
Make the placement tied to the mouse cursor, or for controllers untie the camera from the character for the time of placement. This way we can have fine tuned movement and don’t need to manipulate our character while also trying to place the housing items perfectly aligned to the wall. Keeping all the checks such as collision detection should work.
i also feel the placing of the items needs a little work. i rly like playing with the items and settin my house up nice and cozy but theres so many items you cannot rly place exactly at the wall and always having a little empty space between just doesnt look great. nobody places their cabinets 10cm away from the wall in a house.
also: when u have these smaller items that you can place on tables or big chests/cabinets/tables ( like the music box or the book staple etc. ) i cannot get my char to pick them up again. i have to remove the storage/table first which is kinda annoying considering theres like 40 slots if items in there …
im okay with the system tbh, but it def could be better and i also think it would be better if you could just navigate the house when ur in “placement mode” so to say without moving with ur char, yes.
I have faced the smaller items issue as well. I placed a tome and a flower pot on a table and then I couldn’t pick up the flower pot or the tome. And that was after it took like 15 minutes to get the table to be in the right position. I ended up just moving everything because I ran out of patience.
